Many companies hire retired military officers, some even trained in the academies where personal honor is a requirement. Until proven wrong, I will be encouraged by this for in an age where stockholder profits reign supreme at the expense of the employee and the customer, I would think that those who served as officers in our military would not bend so easily and may even "move on" before a vocational change includes a priorities change. A retired Admiral is in the middle of a controversy that transcends Pennsylvania politics. During the campaign, he said that the White House had offered him a high position if he would not challenge Arlen Specter for his Senate seat. I had hoped that Joe Sestak would be open and forthcoming with the details of this affair but today's events lead me to believe that he is cleaving more to his new vocation than his naval career. The Obama administration has to be in full panic mode for this fiasco has the makings of a Watergate. The transparency of the explanation is so unbelievable that they must be counting on new heights of gullibility while even parts of the usually reliable media seem concerned over the gaffes, mistakes and disimpassioned efforts on serious issues. Surely the administration must know that this problem will follow Congressman Sestak throughout the campaign!
There has been a lot of commentary on whether Barack Obama can win again in 2012. I don't believe that he will even be the nominee, for if he has any legitimate challenger at all, particularly from an older mold, he will be the first President since Lyndon Johnson, not to be on the party ticket for a second complete term, and the first elected president to fail in his attempt for the nomination to a second term since Franklin Pierce in 1857.
A Tale Of Two Pennsylvania Congressional races:
The race in the 12th District of Pennsylvania for John Murtha's seat made national news as the Democrat ran as a "conservative," and won the seat in this "special election", but he will have ample opportunity to show if these are his true colors. My thoughts? Those conservative colors will run and his tenure in the Congress will be very short. Meanwhile, Congressman Jason Altmire represents the 4th District in Pennsylvania and has bucked the administration a few times. If he continues to listen to the people and not David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel, he may not only win another term but be a leader in a future resurgent Democrat Party.
I mentioned a few times that the agenda of this administration is so outrageous that the Republican Party should hold "in abeyance" all legislation with any political ramifications at all as long as they can. Every bill should be delayed, every nomination scrutinized ad nauseum. The last thing the Democrats want, are the issues of cap and trade, immigration reform, FCC regulations and numerous other initiatives still in debate this fall. They have a few recesses to deal with but need these issues to be dealt with before the campaign heats up to retain the support of powerful groups who put them where they are.
The coming congressional elections could be seen as a jigsaw puzzle where every piece is a photo of the
Democratic candidate but when the puzzle is complete, there is a superimposed image indicating an America of Socialism, serfdom and weakness. In such a scenario, the Democrats would certainly want to concentrate on each individual piece, and obscure the collective image. The Republican Party needs to do the opposite and concentrate on the image that those pieces come together to form. Not likely though.
