If you are looking for a sermon to listen to tomorrow....I'll recommend one that we listened to today while on a leisurely drive through Columbiana County, Ohio on the way to an apple orchard. Michael Horton is 56 years old but I still picture him as a young man....and if you listen to the sermon but don't watch the accompanying video....you may also imagine him as a very young man because of his voice. (actually he still has the baby face)
I just happened to come across his radio program....The White Horse Inn....somewhere back in the mid-1990s.....and the weekly show became a staple in our home for two decades. What's different about it from other radio ministries is that it purposely addresses the intellect as it explores the gospel and history of the Christian church. As for Michael Horton....my opinion for whatever that is worth....he is our premier theologian today....a mixture of Calvin and Luther and J. Gresham Machen....with a little R. C. Sproul and James Boice Montgomery thrown in.
My wife and I went on a White Horse Inn cruise in February of 2012....a Conference at Sea.....as they labeled it.....and it was absolutely wonderful. Our large group had the main and center section for dining....and chosen by lot....we had some of our meals with the hosts of the show.
As I often do I'll add an anecdote. It's my habit at times that are convenient to somehow display a book next to where I'm sitting....maybe in the lobby of a hotel.....in the event that someone might notice and start a conversation. Well this time it was at poolside in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Susan Hunt is an author....and a woman involved in women's ministry in the Presbyterian Church in America. She had written an excellent woman's Bible Study series that I had come across....and I took a copy of one of her books to the pool.....not to read.....just to display.....and sure enough a gentleman stopped and asked to look at it. He then asked if he could take it to his wife to look over....which he did....and she said that it would be a good series for her own Bible Study that she led. The gentleman and I talked a bit and it turns out that he was the pastor who performed the wedding ceremony at Michael Horton's wedding. Small world? Not really.
Oh....the sermon title.....just Google.....Michael Horton sermon, Saved Us To A Holy Calling.....and it will come right up....and I think you will be thankful that you choose to listen to it on this Lord's Day!
