Archaeological Find

                 This was just in the news a few days ago....archaeologists in Turkey announced that they stumbled upon what may be the world's largest underground city.....built 1900 years ago.....that may at one time have had a population of as many as 70,000 people! "Colossal" and "stupendous" were some of the descriptions of the find. The Christian community would have gone underground....literally....for protection from the pagan culture. I can remember studying about the catacombs of Rome....probably in grade school....but can we really even get close to understanding living that kind of life? We are not in such subterranean living conditions today....for we are still above ground....living in what Bunyan would call the....City Of Destruction....and working in or visiting for the entertainment....Vanity Fair. What we have lost is the understanding that we are but pilgrims.....passing through....may our pulpits remind us of this from time to time!
