I watched the elections returns tonight as I always do, paying particular interest in four Senate races and five House seats (7 of the nine won) because those candidates stood out in integrity and common sense but I wasn't watching with the intense involvement that I have had throughout most of my life. My prayer has been for God-fearing leaders, for men or women who know that it was God who blessed and sustained this country over so many years, and it was our dalliance with and then outright rejection of Him that brought us to where we are today.
Even with favorable results it's hard to celebrate, actually it's impossible for me to celebrate. Should God have mercy upon us as a people, should His Holy Spirit move over this land as wind over ripened wheat fields, should He relent for a time with the judgement upon us that is so overdue, then strong God-fearing leaders would be in abundance by the mere fact that the people would choose them. Then might we be able put our government and our country on the right path, but that breath of God's Spirit has not happened as of yet.
These election results mean nothing outside of that scenario. Not one iota of change has occurred. Barack Obama has been soundly rejected as it relates to Senate majorities, committee chairs and scheduled legislative votes but America has only shown that it can recognize incompetence and tyranny if you give them six years to do so.
We would, come January, should God even permit us to continue, have more than a nucleus of wise representatives in our government, and a such group can only continue to inform the general electorate as has happened over the last four years. And yes there would be intense political struggles, even war if you will, within the Republican Party, but all of these efforts, as necessary as they are, will not cure what ails us. In fact the exhilaration of the moment tonight might very well set us back as to discerning that we are indeed at the precipice and we have no lifeline other than humbling ourselves before He whom we have so offended.
