"King Charles I was ruling England without calling a Parliament which were the
people's representatives. Taxation, questionable financial dealings and
forced loans were some of the issues of contention between the king and
his opponents. One adviser, the Earl of Essex, was accused of tyranny. Another adviser, Bishop Laud, came
down with a hammer on dissent and attempted to enforce a state
controlled church upon the people. The situation deteriorated and the First English Civil War followed.
At this time, Oliver Cromwell arose out of obscurity in Parliament.
Love him or hate him, he is considered one of the greatest military
leaders in history. The leader of Parliament's army in the beginning
was the Earl of Manchester. He was a moderate and Cromwell was unsure if his heart was in this conflict. Manchester, on his part, criticized Cromwell for bringing too many of the common people into service of the cause. Cromwell's response was If
you choose godly, honest men to be captains of horse, honest men will
follow them...I would rather have a plain russet-coated captain who
knows what he fights for and loves what he knows than that which you
call a gentleman and is nothing else."
This paragraph is from a post published three years ago. Republican elites consider us commoners. They want our votes but conspire in tandem against our candidates. We, on the other hand, see them as absolutely worthless, and that is a generous description. These establishment elites have relegated Almighty God to being merely a 'social issue' that can be bartered away!' God is about to show them the folly of their ways in the whirlwind taking form in the turbulence surrounding us but this is seen only as a coming summer thunderstorm capable at worst of but setting their plans back months or even a year.
As I typed in the period of this last sentence, I was somewhat startled as my iPhone trumpeted an emergency weather alert for our area. Thunder and lightning have been lighting up the sky for an hour and the sound of heavy rain pelting the chimney cover has been echoing down to where I sit. I responded to the alert to find out that a Flash Flood Watch is in effect until tomorrow but cannot help but relate this to the warnings that God has given to us for over forty years, and I'm reminded of the words of Jesus in the 16th chapter of Matthew..."...When it is evening, you say, it will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, 'There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?"
