I was just walking through the room and my wife mentioned a tidbit from a newspaper article that she was reading......a local race.....three candidates......one hasn't run any television or radio ads at all. Then my darker side came out....."What's that candidate's name?" She told me....."Well that's who I'm voting for......at least I won't have to hear their lies."
A number of years ago .....November 3rd of 2010 to be exact....when Jim DeMint was still in the Senate.....and the head of the Senate Conservatives Fund......a few of 'our' candidates won. DeMint wrote a piece that was published in the Wall Street Journal. In that article he warned those newly elected Senators that the establishment was going to attempt to "co-opt" them.....to be all over them like Coppertone on a snowbird.
I don't know what it is.....maybe it's the parking space at the Capital with their name on it....or maybe it's the spa key....but something sucks new members of Congress in like dog hair in a Hoover. The Republican leadership rules them from there on out. If they're lucky they can win reelection after reelection with the help of the party and someday actually be able to think for themselves.
Politics has never been the bride.....but it has always been one of those bridesmaids......in a line with flowers in their hands....and all wearing the same wildly-colored dress......with pluffy shoulder pads.
Unless one elopes......there has got to be at least one bridesmaid......and if she's too beautiful then she can take the attention away from the bride.....but if there is a line of bridesmaids then the only thing one notices is all those flamboyantly-colored dresses with pluffy should pads.
We only had one bridesmaid in this past election......politics.....and her diamond earrings....bejeweled headband.....gold bracelets....and silver slippers showing under her Parisian runway gown took everyone's attention away from our bride....Wisdom. There was no bridesmaid Principle or Ethics or Honor or even Truth standing off to the side.....gazing lovingly upon the bride......just one golden haired....glamorous....beguiling....seductive bridesmaid....that drew away everyone's attention. We don't even have decent memories of the wedding.....only a chronic hangover.....a few regrets....and a huge bar tab.
