There is an article on Fox Internet news as I type where a father describes a humorous episode with his family while on an outing. He asked his nine year old daughter to pray before the meal.....and she stumbled with..."Dear Alexa, please bless our meal today, and Daddy...." That's the humor but the rest of the article was a warning for parents on how artificial intelligence is becoming such a big part of our lives already. What followed was some good information on the dangers of AI and how best to prepare to live with it. What was missing was how this paradigm change in American society has already affected the church.
The author essentially is warning Christians parents on how to raise their children with these dangers all around us. Our son....32 years ago....maybe a year old....was sitting on the floor in front of the television one afternoon....fixated on the screen as my hand passing between his eyes and the television. I pulled the plug and put that television in the basement for nine years. Television, smart phones and things like Alexa are serious stuff. The Christian church today has already....and long ago....been weakened by this wildly exciting yet wickedly rebellious culture that is America.
Yes....we have to protect our children....but even more than that we have to take inventory on how our own thinking processes have already been infected.....evidence of this would be the breathtakingly uncritical and credulous near adoration of Donald Trump....and this because the church in America in general has already succumbed to the pressures of watering down the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into at best Sunday School sermons and praise worship....'Fun in the Son' Christianity.
You are in college and have just started the new year. If you are at a challenging college then you have your work cut out for you. You will balance rest and recreation with rigorous study. There will be little time allotted for what is most important....and if time for God is included it will most likely avoid the intellect or any pleading with God for discernment on your country and the entire world collapsing right in front of you. Maybe you finally graduated last year and your job is even more demanding. What will this success be worth if you become oblivious to the particular evil of this age that we live in....and how will your plans coincide with what we should be doing....looking for the return of our King in power and glory?
