Preface: We don't even know the name yet....but they are already confirmed....how bad is that? We do know the term 'Pyrrhic Victory' do we not.....where a victory takes such a toll that you have to wonder if it was in the long run a victory? If the Republicans push through this nomination....when upon the death of Antonin Scalia they pushed off a vote for eleven months....then they will give a future Democrat administration complete and total freedom to do whatever they want regardless of the constitution....plus they give Nancy Pelosi the 'loop hole' right now to up the ante on anything and everything....for all is now fair in the White House and in the Congress....but we will have had our Supreme Court judge. Nominate but hold off the vote would be a wise thing to do for Republicans....for their base would be mobilized....vote now.....and the other side will be incensed and energized.
Anytime that someone dies....anyone well-known in the public....it should bring at least a moment of reflection to us....maybe concern for the family of the person who passed away. That's generally the first thing that comes to my mind at times like this....and it is with Ruth Bader Ginsburg....but there's something else....and that to me anyway....is that one-by-one past generations leave us. The old Hollywood A List is now officially gone with the passing of Olivia De Havilland. It's remarkable how Jimmy Carter....who appointed Ruth Bader Ginsburg to an appeals court back in 1980....is probably still pounding nails at 95 years of age....but all too often....as in a situation such as the passing of a Supreme Court Justice....the here-and-now is what becomes the main concern.
There is no way that a Supreme Court seat should even be attempted to be filled 45 days prior to a national election....for many reasons....one of which is that it is not enough time to properly vet anyone....but possible societal unrest over a....blink-and-you-missed-it appointment....would be another. This may in a way be why we have playboy bon vivant deal-maker extraordinaire (sort of) Donald Trump as president of the United States of America....as we did not have enough time to vet him....(actually we were hurried but we had the time but not the desire)....and my own testimony on this is that I knew little of Trump even though I voted for him and celebrated. It was only after he showed himself to be completely unfit for that office....this being March and April of 2017....that I started to vet him.....75 books so far and counting....through the tears.
So....I would expect that this might be the deal from Trump....nominate someone who we want....fight like he did with Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 23 back on April 1, 2007.....where he body-slammed McMahon to the cheers of the crowd....but hope that the nominee does not actually get appointed....(yet)....because right now conservatives live and breathe their support for Trump because of the Supreme Court. What else has he given them but trouble? Fill this court seat and the emergency is somewhat....somewhat mitigated....and the voter turnout might be a tad lower than hoped for....but that 'tad' is enough to lose an election.
