Preface....January 25, 2021....People....even Christians today....do not want to hear anything about God's judgment on America. They just do not want to hear it....plain and simple....for they have plans....and this is spite of a nation literally careening wildly and uncontrollably from violence and deception and chaos. This is the day folks...this is the day to lay down everything....and face the biblical reality before us. One can read the Bible every day....and choose the passages and the books that they deep down within know will keep them insulated from warnings of God's judgment. I have seen Christians....and churches.....and whole denominations do this for much longer than I have been a Christian.
These words are from the preface of a post from a February 2019 post....before the pandemic hit in full force.....I came across this exhortation to preachers in a sermon of Charles Spurgeon's titled....Jesus, King Of Truth....(the YouTube can easily be Googled for your Lord's Day sermon)...."I have sometimes, when hearing sermons, wished the preacher would come to the point, and would deal with something that really concerned our soul's welfare. What concern have dying men with the thousand trivial questions which are flitting around us? We have heaven or hell before us, and death within a stone's throw; for God's sake do not trifle with us, but tell us the truth at once!"
Donald Trump had an opportunity to be a very good president. He stumbled into this job....not really thinking that he would actually win....but things took off. Something like this would have humbled just about anyone but not Donald Trump. By all rights he should have said "what did I get myself into?" and ask God who he references all the time but has no real concern for to give him wisdom.
Drudge has it as a headline right now....."John Kelly Unloads...".....the article quotes former Chief of Staff and retired U. S. Marine general in...."The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life."
So here we are.....God has judged us with bad leaders....for our Laodicean churches....faddish doctrines....and itchy ears. He has judged all of us for our daliances with the world....and failure to look only to Him....and lack of vigilance....at times leaving our first love....and failing to adequately separate.
After all has been said and done....we do not realize the trouble that we are in. We had our Jonah warnings over multiple decades from men such as Billy Graham and R. C. Sproul who....their task completed.....have gone on to be with their Lord. Today....no longer interested in Jeremiads....irritated by them really....we prefer to rally around and hear Norman Vincent Peale's chief apostle to the Americans. Oddly....we say that we trust God....but no longer trust His warnings? Maranatha seems the furthest things from our lips....when forty years ago we could give you chapter and verse.
