On the road today to a college campus....I felt like listening to something biographic....so I Googled....'George Whitefield, YouTube'....and listened to a seminar-type talk by Steven J. Lawson....who I have posted on a number of times....who is a Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow....a professor at John MacArthur's Master's Seminary....and is the founder of his own....OnePassion Ministries. What I listened to was....The Power Of God In George Whitefield's Life. So....presuming that some students will at least be visiting these posts....this is addressed to them....
You have a political science lecture.....maybe this evening.....or an important engineering test in a few days....or a biology report that is almost due....or three days to finish reading.....Beowulf....but taking time to listen to this Steven Lawson talk on George Whitefield might change a lot of your plans on college....or at least give you a different perspective on higher education....and a more biblical approach to life in general!
So I'm asking you to find time to sit down and listen to this talk....it's a little over an hour long. I remember what it's like to try to find time to do something while in college. Fifty years ago....while at Pitt....in amongst my social activities....I successfully found time to read enough of my class assignments. So it has to be possible for you at the other end of the spectrum!
Addendum: Are you familiar with Oxford's....Holy Club....a pejorative much like how the Puritans got their name....where John And Charles Wesley and George Whitefield....and a few others....met as students at Oxford....to improve upon their dedication to God? Well Steven Lawson mentions in his talk how at the time none of these students had truly even been converted! This would come shortly afterwards. I bring this up in this post primarily to college students on Christian campuses. You don't even address this question. Surely you are converted. You picked a Christian college for Pete's sake! You go to church....to bible study....and offer opinions all the time on God and the culture that we live in. Not only you....but especially you....and all of us....have to continually examine ourselves....for there is 'faith'....even a 'holy club'....'see you at the pole'....'pro-life' faith....that does not save....the difference demonstrated so very clearly in the lives and testimonies of John Wesley and George Whitefield....who were used by God only after their conversion became real....and they were born again from above....humbled....prostrate in their failures....and then sent out....separated from the world....to win souls for Christ!
