"Women, Children....And The Unsaved Into The Lifeboats!"

Preface: The following paragraph was just an addendum in a recent post....a post highlighting a seminar talk that can be Googled at....The Power Of God In George Whitefield's Life.....Steve Lawson. I'm not making friends by being so forward in these warnings....in fact I'm probably losing them.....but I'm reminded of a previous post with this anecdote....John Harper was a British Baptist pastor and passenger on the Titanic. He was headed to America as a guest preacher with the possibility of accepting a call at a famous American church. He was travelling with his six year old daughter for he was a widower. After he placed his daughter in a lifeboat it is reported that he shouted "women, children, and the unsaved into the lifeboats." At first the crew of the Titanic tried to keep the passengers calm....but it eventually became obvious that the ship was going down. John Harper wound up in the water....and it was recorded that before going to his Lord and Savior....he was swimming up to people....asking them...."Are you saved?" The following was posted after a trip to a couple of Christian college campuses....so it is addressed to students....

"Are you familiar with Oxford's....Holy Club....a pejorative much like how the Puritans got their name....where John And Charles Wesley and George Whitefield....and a few others....met as students at Oxford....to improve upon their dedication to God? Well Steven Lawson mentions in his talk how at the time none of these students had truly even been converted! This would come shortly afterwards. I bring this up in this post primarily to college students on Christian campuses. You don't even address this question. Surely you are converted. You picked a Christian college for Pete's sake! You go to church....to bible study....and offer opinions all the time on God and the culture that we live in. Not only you....but especially you....and all of us....have to continually examine ourselves....for there is 'faith'....even a 'holy club'....'see you at the pole'....'pro-life' faith....that does not save....the difference demonstrated so very clearly in the lives and testimonies of John Wesley and George Whitefield....who were used by God only after their conversion became real....and they were born again from above....humbled....prostrate in their failures....and then sent out....separated from the world....to win souls for Christ!
