So Fox has an article out today on a dozen or so....'witch bottles'....or....'spell bottles'.....that have been found on some beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.....particularly around Corpus Christi, Texas. They tend to look like wine or vinegar bottles that had been filled with really anything that you might associate with occult spells....herbs or....well you get the picture. The article states that these bottles are...."intended to entomb malevolent spirits." I can attest to evil spirits in bottles for I opened hundreds of them while in college....but it seems that these 'spell' bottles turn up even more often on England beaches....witch isn't surprising. (pun intended)
There also were about thirty....messages in bottles....found. Archaeologists take note of things like this. I wonder if any of those were mine? I'm guessing that it was over twenty-five years ago that our son and I started a tradition that lasted even after he went off to college. He was under ten anyway when we started. We always had our beach vacation. I would buy four to six of those little souvenir bottles filled with sand and tiny shells that all the t-shirt and swim trunks stores on the boardwalk sold. We would write a short gospel message on paper....roll that paper up....stick it in the bottle....push the cork down hard....and toss them into the surf!
So the tradition continues to today....only I put a little message and the URL for these posts in the bottles. In the summer of 2022....when we all vacationed together....my son and I walked down to the surf....and we tossed a couple of bottles in the water....and a few months ago while my wife and I were at Rehoboth Beach....on the last evening....I went down to the beach with the one bottle that I bought....and tossed it as far as my seventy-three year old arm could toss it. (which wasn't that far) Maybe you found it? Maybe President Biden found it?
