You have heard the phrase people groups before I'm sure. It's mostly used among Christians and it pertains to small indigenous ethnic peoples usually somewhere in the remotest areas of a continent. Last evening I watched a presentation by two missionary friends home on furlough. They could hardly contain their excitement as they walked me through the video. This particular 'people group' had no alphabet, therefore no written language just a short 40 years ago. Missionaries set to work on developing an alphabet for them and then teaching them how to read what they were speaking. Once that was done this new written language was used in translating the New Testament. I watched in awe, and in wonder, and in admiration as these people celebrated the boxes of New Testaments, balanced upon the heads of believers, being delivered for the first time. I had heard such stories before and rejoiced in them, but knowing the missionaries and hearing their narration was something to remember, rejoice in every time it comes back to my mind, and to learn from, and most importantly to humble myself again and again in remembrance of these people who literally celebrated receiving the written Word of God!
As usual, my mind is drawn to an analogy, and also as usual it references America. We are two distinct people groups in America, living at times only feet away from each other if not living in the same home. One group has retained the tradition of its Founding Fathers. Its language is strikingly similar to its beginnings, and it worships the same God and reads the same Holy Scriptures with the same precision as did a dozen generations past. The other people group utilizes the older language, and the alphabet is the same, but key words often have different meanings, and the God they worship bears little resemblance to the God of the first people group for it is amorphous depending on what person is describing him and possibly what mood they are in. The disaster of Progressive Education is evident in this second people group for they often can struggle with simple concepts and throw tantrums if they are challenged in any way. I'm going to digress for a few moments:
I had a very difficult conversation with Siri this morning. I had an idea for a post and just wanted to put a note on my iPhone to help me remember. The conversation went 'something' like this...maybe I exaggerate just a little:
Siri: "What can I help you with?"
Me: "Note...Trump and The Apprentice."
Siri: "Where do you want to put it?" She then started to read all my note titles which would taken about a half hour. Thinking quickly which is not my forte, I continued...
Me "Siri, hold up."
Siri: "Hold up what?"
Me: "Stop!"
Siri: "Where do you want to put it?" I felt like telling her where to put it. I paused and tried gain.
Me: "Siri.... new...note."
Siri: "New note what?"
ME: "Never mind."
Siri: "Where do you want to put it?"
Previous to yesterday I had never actually seen Megyn Kelly doing her thing on whatever program she has for we do not have extended cable television but I have read an awful lot concerning her work . The article I came across described a confrontation she had with Mike Huckabee and it piqued my interest so I watched the video. The two faces, in different studios, stared back at me. The topic was the speech by the father of a Muslim American soldier, a hero, who had died saving his team members! The father was irate at Donald Trump's "proposed temporary ban on Muslim refugees." His reasoning was that if the ban had previously been in place his son would not have been able to save his team members.
For a father to take such a position is understandable, and the story of this courageous young American is heartrending, but Megyn Kelly, a member of that other people group...the newer people group, did what she does best....pose like a model while at times torturing common sense and reasoning. It's a simple concept! There are many bad guys trying to into the United States. They are posing as refugees to do it. Stop it for now until a verifiable and safe system can be installed. Like a child who could not get their way, she interrupted without even considering what Mike Huckabee had to say. To his credit, he knew who he was talking to and made his sentences short amidst the interruptions in order for the viewing audience to be able to apply simple common sense to the issue.
