Vice President Mike Pence also spoke in the Rose Garden on May 4th as President Trump signed an executive order turning back the clock on government intrusion in American Christian pulpits. I just happened to see a clip of the Vice President's remarks a few minutes ago. Did I just hear what I just heard? Please excuse my irregular phrasing but it was astonishing. Mike Pence smiled, and in his very gentle manner looked into the crowd of supporters and said this....."Our president is a believer.....he is a man of unshakable faith in God."
Mr. Vice President, Donald Trump has been a profane and godless man...and he has proven this over and over again with his words in interviews. He's a disciple of Normal Vincent Peale's gospel and you see this just about every time he speaks. Everything is positive thinking....everything! So Mr. Vice President....please be more specific in this good news.....just when did Donald Trump become a believer? Did he say two sentences in assenting to some bare minimum invitation to the gospel...for that's a common methodology today in evangelizing.
Folks, there are a lot of things that a new Christian needs time to develop but gratitude isn't one of them. By gratitude I mean that one first realizes with an overbearing grief that one has spent his life in rebellion to a holy God, and then after crying out for mercy and forgiveness offered at the cross of Calvary, and through faith in the shed blood of our Savior, there is an overwhelming gratitude and humility in knowing that one has been forgiven....enough anyway that one doesn't continue to boast in oneself as President Trump has done to this very day.
Franklin Graham said that Donald Trump won the election by "the hand of God." This is indisputable but it says nothing about God's plan for America! The Financial Times of London published a piece with the title...'How The Bible Belt Lost God And Found Trump.' In it they wondered how American Christianity could become so enamored with a gambling casino magnate. Under Obama we were a remnant...but we ran to 'Egypt'....we ran to Donald Trump for protection. It's one thing to recognize that he was the only choice in the election, which he was, but altogether another thing to put our faith, hope and allegiance in a man.
Christian journalist Cal Thomas interviewed candidate Trump and asked him who Jesus was. When Trump avoided giving an answer Thomas pressed him..."who do you say Jesus is." Here was Trump's answer..."Jesus to me is somebody I can think about for security and confidence. Somebody I can revere in terms of bravery and courage and, because I consider the Christian religion so important, somebody I can totally rely on in my own mind"
Mr. Trump said during the campaign that he wasn't sure that he ever asked God for forgiveness. He added... "I don't bring God into the picture" CBN asked him...who is God and Mr. Trump's answer was..." God is the ultimate...so nobody, no there's nothing like God." His new administration requested that there be no sermon at the inauguration service...only prayers...and he gave more attention to the LGBT community in his inauguration speech than he did to the benefactor and sustainer of this nation since its beginnings. So Mr. Vice President...just when did this transformation take place?
