Martin Luther's name has been on the lips of many Christians lately....more so than usual which is a lot anyway....this because the 500 year anniversary of his 95 theses is just around the corner. Someone once asked Luther what he would do if he knew for sure that Jesus was returning the very next day. Martin's answer was pure Luther...."I would plant a tree." Politics is not our answer....never was....and never will be....but we have to work for what is right until the Lord comes....and make sure that we always keep our priorities straight!
Blurbs on the back cover mean a lot to me when I'm buying a book. Jim DeMint's or Mark Levin's name might not guarantee that I buy the book but Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren or someone like that does guarantee that the book is returned immediately to the shelf....until tonight that is. I bought a book where Hillary wrote the forward. That's right Hillary!
I remember reading a book that I borrowed from the Turtle Creek library in the early 60s. That's pronounced Turtle Crick. It's where the Vogues were from. The title and author escapes me but it was on John F. Kennedy's first race for Congress. It was more of a strategy book as I remember. I wasn't a reader and I was only about 13 or 14 years old but JFK was my hero and I wanted to go into politics....at 13 or 14 years old!
The book I purchased tonight is titled Don't Just March...Run For Something...A Real-Talk Guide To Fixing The System Yourself and the author is Amanda Litman. I didn't buy it for me. I should have run for something 35 years ago when my mind all of sudden started functioning. Reagan had a lot to do with it but most of all I was newly Born Again. The chaos in my mind was slowly dissipating but I was way too enthralled with the merciful and wonderful Savior I had been introduced to than anything else.....still am!
As I paged through the book there appeared....as the title certainly suggests....to be a lot of essential hands-on practical advice for someone who may want to run for something. I'm sure there is advice in it that I wouldn't recommend.....but I trust that we are knowledgeable enough to discern what a candidate should not be doing. The language in it is rough.....be aware of that beforehand.....but that shouldn't surprise us.
Wouldn't it be interesting if this Progressive author wrote a book that might someday produce another Jim DeMint or Jeff Sessions? Just in paging through it I rolled my eyes a few times. One paragraph was labelled "The Golden Rule....Don't Lie To People." Another...a whole chapter titled...."Running As A Progressive In A Red State....can be of help in understanding an opponent. I'll try to get a little more specific in a future post....Lord willing.....and if it turns out that I was wrong on recommending it....as Roseanne Roseannadanna would say...."Never Mind"
