"Something Is Rotten In The State Of Denmark"

Putrid odors have risen over the swamp for as long as it has been a swamp. No one ventures over the bog or pushes his rowboat out on the green and yellow algae covered natural cesspool without knowing what his oars will stir up. It is night and the only light is the almost neon glare from the moon on the stinking quagmire. A lone boatman gags as he heaves off onto the murky water. Inexplicably he says out loud to himself ....."what is that smell?" He grabs a pointed object from the bottom of the boat and uses his oar to pound a small hole in the flat bottom. Noxious liquid bubbles up and the old man exclaims...."ah...the putrid water is the source of the smell." He pounds another hole for more evidence.....and another.....and another. His shoes are now covered with slime. He tries to row but the weight of the boat is now too much as the water is up around his knees. As his skiff sinks he wonders to himself....."what have I done?"
One conservative radio host this morning commented on the latest scandal in the news....."It's delicious." I imagine that it does taste good on the palate of the political mind but it is toxic.  To paraphrase Shakespeare....'all that is delicious is not food'....and J. R. R. Tolkien....'all that is food is not delicious.' The NFL and Hollywood are crumbling according to many pundits. We are thrilled with this and are pounding holes in the bottom of our boat to see even more gurgling evidence of where the odors have been coming from. Had we given more examination we would have wondered why the fetid stench was not exclusive to the swamp but permeated our own clothes before we approached the bog. God has taken away our wisdom and is permitting us to pound holes in the bottom of our boat.
