There is more than one way to define the idiom of gaslighting. I watched the original film Gaslight last evening....the 1940 British film.....not the classic 1944 Hollywood film....(they're both good). Gaslighting in that film....and generally in psychology.....is where one person attempts to make another person believe they are going mad. It can also be as one person tries through various ways to make another person see reality....not as it is....but as the former wants the latter to perceive it.
Another method is for one person to accuse an opponent of something they are in fact guilty of....thus preempting any charges....and neutralizing the effect of them. We can see this today as we have one high-profile member of Congress from Georgia accusing ideological opponents of what they themselves are guilty! Amanda Carpenter in her book....Gaslighting America....Why We Love It When Trump Lies To Us....defines Trump's method as...."floating" an outrageous statement....then backtracking as criticism comes in....as he says that that's just what he has heard others say....he then promises that more information will be coming out....then attacks his opponents usually through Twitter.....and finally he claims to be proven right by his poll numbers.Talk Radio today.....and Fox prime time cable....are pure forms of gaslighting. The absurdity of the situation today is that both sides....the Progressives....and the Patriotic Front....are as Mad Magazines's....Spy Vs Spy....with no word captions....for the captions today are nothing but keyboard character swearing....@&%#!*....where the black spy and the white spy enter into schemes against each other...often blowing each other up.
Brothers and sisters in Christ....you have been gaslighted....and indoctrinated. The spiritual definition of gaslighting might be in the form of the false prophet....Trump being one perfect example. You are today the white spy....lighting a fuse that circles around to a bomb that you are sitting on....as the black spy lights a fuse that circles around to a bomb that he is sitting on. You are being used....your reality being distorted.
Return to the Word of God while there is still light to read. Stand back far enough to observe what is going on all around you. The 78th Psalm....verses 17-31....describes how in spite of how God had protected and blessed them....they wanted the blessings that they wanted. God gave such to them....and possibly a plague to go along with it. This is what we have done in the past five years....as we rejected faith in God....and demanded sustenance and protection in the way that we wanted it.....God gave it to us....and as it was in our mouth....he brought a plague upon us.
"And in their heart they put God to the test by asking food according to their desires. Then they spoke against God. They said, 'Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? Behold, He struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams were overflowing. Can He give bread also? Will He provide meat for His people? Therefore the LORD heard and was full of wrath, and a fire was kindled against Jacob, because they did not believe in God, and did not trust in His salvation. Yet He commanded the clouds above, and opened the doors of heaven; and he rained down manna upon them to eat....so they ate and were filled; and their desire He gave to them.
