When I returned home from a four day trip the battery on our second vehicle was stone cold dead. I'm still in the process or trying to see what happened but I hooked up the battery charger to it and just waited as it recharged.
As I left Planet Fitness this morning and began my walk with as usual my headphones on....listening to a sermon chosen from a....preacher from the past or a preacher today who preaches like preachers from the past....(in this case it was Charles Spurgeon again)....the thought came to me how all of these sermons that I listened to from....preachers from the past or preachers today who preach like preachers from the past....(I know it is overkill on that phrase but it is important in that evangelicals today have no idea what they are missing in their weekly sermons....the presence of the glory of God through the preached word....and a means of grace....preached by men who live in that glory)....so the thought came to me in how every sermon is in a way recharging my battery. There have been days....and that is an understatement....when I am spiritually depleted. I recognize it for what it is....which is tremendously helpful in that I know what to do. Instead of holding a pity party of one....I run to the headphones....and alongside whatever I may be doing....some chore....cutting the grass maybe....I find a sermon to listen to from....a preacher from the past or a preacher today who preaches like preachers from the past....and it is as if the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ is hooked to the positive and negative terminals of my mind.
I can literally feel the strength coming back as I work or as in the case today....I walk in the sun! So I praise God for the fact that He is always there for us....ready to lift us up if necessary....and one praise leads to another....culminating in praising Him for giving us such faithful men from either the past and even from men today though they be few....who deliver to us this....means of grace....even though it be mid-week....even though we may be alone....and even though at times such as today it is only a man reciting the words from another man spoken maybe a century and a half ago!
