West Virginia Democrat Senator Joe Manchin admits the possibility that he may wind up running for president as a third party candidate. You might laugh at that. He might not even decide on this till after what is known as Super Tuesday which is March 5 this time around. Senator Manchin....and a whole lot of other people....do not want to see Biden and Trump to be the only two possibilities. All a third party candidate would have to do is win enough electoral votes to keep either of the other candidates from 270. Then the election would go to the congress. As I posted earlier on....it is not a one-congressperson-one vote situation. If that were the case you could just look at the numbers of Rs and Ds in the House. No....our constitution calls for each state to poll their representatives and then cast their....one vote. Twenty-six votes would be needed. At this time....Republicans control 26 state delegations to congress....the Democrats control 22....and two states are evenly divided. So one might think that the Republican would likely win if the election went to the House of Representatives? Well that might not be the case. Remember...a lot of people do not want Donald Trump in the White House again. West Virginia only has two members of congress....both Republican....and four electoral votes....but they might prefer their own former governor Joe Manchin? Keep this in mind also....that more than anything else....the Democrats do not want Trump in the White House.....and the Republicans.....more than anything else....do not want Joe Biden for a second term. This is a petri dish for compromise. Consider this also....choosing the vice president is just as complicated. The Senate decides this. They choose the vice president. There would be a lot of....'ties'....in this whole process....and it appears that everyone just keeps voting until they come up with a president and a vice president....similar to choosing a pope. Some Republicans might say....'OK....we'll go with Manchin....but we want the VP....where the Democrats might jump at that. There is a lot of room for compromise in this situation....and neither Joe Biden or Donald Trump would be getting compromise votes....do you not agree? Republicans right now are like rats....climbing on a burning ship. They are not looking at the above possibility.
I bring this up only in an attempt to demonstrate to evangelicals that....as it is often repeated...."the best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry"....and that they therefore might rest on this....as did David.....
"For God Alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken." (Ps 62:5,6)
