I would like to recommend to you here a talk given by Martyn Lloyd-Jones....not a sermon....but a talk given at Westminster Chapel, London....the church that he was pastoring....this in 1965....on the 100th anniversary of the opening of the famous church building.
I think that most of us over the years....if we have had the opportunity....have enjoyed hearing revered Christian ministers just give a talk....speaking and recollecting almost informally at times. I had one such opportunity in the Spring of 1996. John Gerstner was one of the speakers at a Soli Deo Gloria conference in Pittsburgh. My wife and son and I were attending a small but distinguished church at the time in East Liverpool, Ohio....where preached the finest preacher of the glories of Christ that I had ever in person heard. Well....as I found out later...John Gerstner himself had served in that church as a temporary preacher....for maybe about a year....somewhere in the past. Small World? Not reallyDr. Gerstner took ill while speaking at the conference. My memory on this is far from complete....but they took him to the hospital.....I believe that it was a stroke....and a short time later he went to be with his Lord and Savior....whom he had preached for so many years.
Back to Martyn Lloyd-Jones at that centenary at Westminster Chapel in 1965. The hour long talk will be edifying to you....even if lectures are not your thing....for although he presents a lot of facts on the history of the church....he is here in essence teaching....from that very distinctive Martyn Lloyd-Jones discernment.
To listen to this....just Google....Martyn Lloyd-Jones....Centenary of the Opening of Westminster Chapel.
