So this is yet another Saturday. Folks....in retirement time greatly accelerates....or rather seems to. The next Lord's Day is upon me as it seems that I just put Tuesday's trash out. My prayers on this day before the Lord's Day have been consistent over the years. I pray for our pastor....and our son's pastor....every day....but the moreso on this day! That prayer is that this would be a terrible day for them....(please wait to make a judgment on that sentence)....in that the Holy Spirit would be moving like an overdose of caffeine in their system.....that whatever they may be doing....that their thoughts would return to God's Word calling....saying....look closer....you are about to be enlightened!
It seems that We are in South Carolina almost every year....for a vacation of some sort. We don't go further south because I don't like to fly. I don't like getting off the plane and not having my own vehicle. A few years back....oh maybe ten or twelve....I was in our room....(this being on vacation in S. C.)....and about to head down to the pool area. Now I am not a pool person. I was going on a mission. I would choose a couple of books to display next to me on the pool deck....and just pass time....hoping that some people who walked by would notice the title....and who knows....maybe even start a conversation!
Well I chose a women's Bible study....one of a series....by Susan Hunt. I can't even remember the particular book.....and actually I never read it.....I just knew by looking at it that it was very good! So I set it down beside me.....and a man stopped and made a comment on the book.....(it gets real interesting here)....and I simply told him what I was doing. A little segue here...somewhere in the mid-90s....I stumbled across Michael Horton and the radio program The White Horse Inn....which then became a weekly staple for about fifteen years. I may have had a Michael Horton book with me at the pool....I don't know....all I know is that this man and I started talking and he was a pastor in a church there in South Carolina....and that he was the pastor that performed the marriage ceremony for a young Michael Horton....and his fiance who was a member of the pastor's church. OK....so he asked to borrow the book for a while.....to show his wife....and later returned it saying that she was going to use it in her Women's Bible study. Small world? Not really. Mission Accomplished. Funny....I just typed that and then remembered that it is the title of the very first book that Michael Horton ever had published!
So I sit here today and wonder about all the churches in South Carolina....supposedly strong biblical churches in the Bible Belt....megachurches many of them....in a state considered a hub of evangelicalism? How is it possible that that in the latest primary polls....that a genuine biblical false prophet....and an 'antichrist' as the Apostle John Labels them....and only God knows what else....how is it possible that evangelicals in S. C. are cementing his hold over this nominating process?
Well the only answer is that this is part of God's judgment upon us. This is what we wanted....and this is what we got. So....once again....tomorrow is yet another Lord's Day....may February 4, 2024.....(my seventy-fourth birthday by the way....Lord willing)....may that be the day that pastors enter their pulpits with new orders....proclaim the nearness of the return of our Lord and Savior and King! May God give them the strength to step out and challenge what we....all of us....myself included....have become as a result of thinking of our own needs and desires....over the needs of the church in this fallen....and despotic....and crumbling nation of ours!
