Steve Bannon is driven....I believe....by the theory put forth in the 1997 book that appears to me to be the most influential book in his life....The Fourth Turning, An American Prophesy, What the Cycles of history Tell us About America's Next Rendezvous with History....written by William Strauss and Neil Howe....and reviewed here on November 3rd. According to it 'time' moves in cycles from a 'high' to a 'crisis'.....and that is where we are right now. That final turning will determine the future....and Bannon is not about to let it evolve on its own. That is why he is so driven.....it is either the populist movement....the grassroots and the hobbits....or the globalists...or someone else.....that will lead America and the world into a new phase. The theory itself is corrupt and very problematic if one follows it as some kind of scripture. Consequently Steve Bannon....in his attempt to defend the goals of the populist movement and influence the final turning....has stuck with President Trump for so long even as the President was slowly abandoning the movement that put him into office.
Fire And Fury
I had absolutely no intention of reading let alone buying Fire And Fury by Michael Wolff....until the President essentially tried to ban the book. I then picked up the phone to call Barnes & Noble because I knew it wasn't going to last on the shelves....and it didn't....at my local B&N anyway.....but my set aside copy was waiting for me. I finished a little bit ago....it's 1:50 in the morning.
Quite a lot of Christians think that Donald Trump's incredible victory in November of 2016 was fulfilled biblical prophesy. Steve Bannon thinks that the victory and first year were Shakespearean. I tend to agree with both descriptions. As for the former....this is judgment upon America....not peace and security....yet possibly a reprieve in order to repent. As for the latter....well let me describe Wolff's book and you decide.
Now President Trump's fundamental mistake was making his children his advisers. We've all said that. There are intrigues all around the palace. The king ignores loyal and wise advisers and surrounds himself with members of a competing family (Establishment Republicans and globalists) that only want to use him. The king has spent most of his youth and mid-life playing king and continues to play king after he inherits the throne. Main characters in the royal court hate each other. One champion knight is sent to the gallows by the king's children. This is Shakespearean!
Wolff says that Donald Trump never thought that he would win....or even wanted to win....I've written the same thought a few times over the past year. He opined that Donald Trump could not have cared less about Obamacare repeal and replace....my thoughts exactly. Donald Trump is not a reader.....and that's a problem....for any president.....I've commented on that. Michael Wolff hurt himself by adding sensationalism that need not have been added. Had it not been for Steve Bannon's use of the word 'treasonous' the book may have gone relatively unnoticed....and Bannon himself might have been unscathed.....even lionized....by the narrative of the book.
The Christian who had vested himself in Donald Trump should read this book. If you're going to have a champion you should know something about the champion. Yes, the book was critical of Donald Trump on just about every page.....but surprisingly it did not put forth a Progressive agenda in its place. The closest it came to taking an opposing political opinion was in presenting a few 'establishment' types in a good light. Fire And Fury is totally and blindly critical of President Trump....the man and the president....but on the other hand Rush Limbaugh and others are totally and blindly praising of Donald Trump....the man and the president....both have to be taken for what they are and no more. The book is legitimate in it's right to be published....that's the best that I can say about it.

As for the biblical prophesy....a number of Christian books are out that claim that God has given us Donald Trump to make America great again. Right now they think that a 25,000 point stock market is proof of that....but what we really have is chaotic and narcissistic leadership.....in perilous times.....that's judgment. Another particular Christian book....a more legitimate attempt anyway at reading Scripture.....has Donald Trump as given to America to destroy the Baals.....in the persons of today's King Ahab and Jezebel.....but even here it does not point to any rebuilding of the kingdom. The Shakespearean element would not drive us to our knees.....the Bible element should lead us to 'shock and awe'.....shock in how far we have fallen as a people and a nation.....and awe in God who brings judgment but offers mercy.....who can use a Nebuchadnezzar and a Darius for His purposes.....and whose glory is such that to but shout out praises and thanksgivings is not only folly but deafeningly destructive.
