I went into Ollies....'Good Stuff Cheap'.....for two purposes....to look through the Bible and Christian books section....for they often have good deals to stock up on Bibles and books to give away....and I just had the urge to do something I haven't done in....sixty years.....buy a model car and build it....a 1957 Ford Fairlane would have been nice. The model section was rather depleted after Christmas but I did settle on a 1/90 scale fishing trawler.
I'm looking at the box as I type, and what with the labelled 'bomb cyclone' approaching New England, my mind strayed to the October 1991 loss of the Massachusetts based fishing trawler Andrea Gail and the resulting book and film The Perfect Storm. Two-intense systems came together.....Hurricane Grace clashed with a massive low pressure system. R. C. Sproul once defined grace in one simple word....unmerited. Is this not what the Christian experiences.....unmerited favor amidst a chaotic world....but the storm would come to known as the Halloween Storm. God's unmerited favor took Western Civilization by storm on October 31st, 1517....500 years ago....when He used Martin Luther to begin the Reformation.....which eventually led to Plymouth Massachusetts and then the United States of America.
I've written about it many times.....others have opined on it.....America is in a perfect storm today....although we may differ on the causes and implications. North Korea should be on our mind in prayer throughout each and every day. Israel is every bit as much in rebellion against God as we are....even more.....and God has been warning us of judgment for upwards of 40 years....the same amount of time that Jeremiah warned Judah.....and who wept over their recalcitrance.
Communism is gently lifting the money envy-green smock up and over its head...ready to...with the Riddler's laugh....reveal the red and gold sickle and hammer flag tattooed upon its chest....all this while the sickness of greed is breaking out into a boiling and bubbling stock market.....and the cauldron Middle-East is stirred by Iran....and technology begins to take on a life of its own while destroying ours....and while the earth shifts within and rumbles in strange and dangerous areas....and while even the animal kingdom seems to be getting anxious.
We....most conservatives....look at Donald Trump and refuse to see anything but a champion on a white horse....but underneath the armor is a troubled individual in need of grace.... (of which we all are in need of)....who is at the helm.....trolling anyone and everyone who has the audacity to not bow before him. Euphoria abounds.....champagne glasses are being raised....great and marvelous plans are being made.....our only concern being keeping the chips on the table as the winds pick up and these nuisance waves increase in size.
Nothing will happen to us we say....God is pleased with us....we're carrying His banners.....Make America Great Again.....and God Bless America. We are not vigilant.....we are not alert.....we are no longer humble....we banish those who do not bow before our champion....we refuse to look at the storm clouds on the horizon.....preferring to listen to our own meteorologist.....Rush Limbaugh.
