Preface: Summer has seduced us once again. We have no time for distractions. Wars....pandemics....recessions....these things are mere annoyances. In our grand delusion....we....we former ethical and evangel-minded and compassionate conservatives....all of us egged on by Fox News and talk radio and many and varied podcasters....who have replaced our pulpits who abdicated long ago....rendering us as sheep who having tired of the comfort of the rod and the staff....now revel in the freedom and liberty of being masters of our own fate....we look to November 8 of this year....for in that day we once again shall....seize the day....giving us the purse and the gavel....and the 2024 presidential campaign will thus begin. Judgment be damned....unless we are the ones distributing it. Mar-a-Lago we understand....Mar-a-natha....is undecipherable to our now...'faith and freedom'....biblical hermeneutic. Discernment on the second coming of Jesus Christ is quite literally dead in the church today. It is not in our pulpits and it is not in our minds....in fact it is not what we think that we need....nor is it what we want. We are passionate and determined to build again that which was torn down. That is all that we want. We want our future back.
It must be said that the words pertaining to the second coming of Jesus Christ are still in many pulpits....but they are dead and lifeless words....spoken not to inform anyone....but to cover our.....please excuse this phrase but it conveys the message more than anything else....to cover our rear ends....to make it seem as if the Second Coming is important to us....when it is the last thing on our minds.
It was not always this way. We were discerning on this matter forty and fifty years ago. We knew very well that God had been patient with us....but we also knew that that patience was coming to an end. There is no way to give a quantitative number on this.....for example ten times more....or a hundred times more....but America is.....terrifyingly more rebellious to God than it was back when we knew that God's judgment was coming....and we are equally terrifyingly less discerning of it!
The church....overall....has decayed. Megachurches are a result of a people who do not want humble obedience....and knowledge of the glories of God.....but security.....security in that if two thousand people are singing along with us in a service....those numbers alone give us the security that we desire. Of course there is no security there at all. In fact it is a sheepfold with no pen....and no shepherd.
Whether or not it is the great delusion spoken of in God's prophetic word or not....I don't know....probably not.....but it is a great delusion. A great blindness might be more accurate.....or a great darkness that has fallen over the church. We do not know up from down anymore.....or our left from our right. The evangelical mind has atrophied such that it needs fed every day....for it no longer has strength of its own to think or to contemplate or to analyse. Talk radio and Fox supply the information for our minds. We don't even get to digest it. We are nothing but followers today.
As one who has lived on this earth for seventy-two years....I submit to you that the evidence of the Lord's return is ample and it is clear if we would only open our eyes. One thing that is greater today than it was forty and fifty years ago is the hope within the remnant....for there is always a remnant. Faithful pastors feed their small flocks.....looking for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Many veils have been lifted....and are being lifted all the time.....so much so that no prayer of ours should conclude without….what once we did pray often.....Maranatha....Lord Jesus come!
