The magnetic stickers on the back of my vehicle have the URL for these posts....specialdogg.blogspot.com....and I have room on the tailgate for a short message....about a dozen letters and spaces.....to get the attention of the driver in back of me. I've tried all kinds of messages over the years. So I made one up yesterday for our forty minute trip to a movie theater.
The movie was one of those Fathom events....this one the latest from the God's Not Dead series....God's Not Dead: In God We Trust. The bumper sticker that I made up was short and succinct. It had the acronym....GOP....in capitals and in blue....with a red X overlapping it. There was a space and then the three letter word....GOD....also in capitals. So it is reading.....G...O...P__No__G...O...D. Or our hope is not in politics but in God.
The essence of the movie was in strongly encouraging the audience members to vote! Three or four times someone in the film would give the statistics that 40 million Christians did not vote in the last election....with an additional 15 million who were not even registered to vote.
So you might....considering my bumper sticker....think that I am not on board with the message of the movie....but that is not the case. I show up and vote in all the elections....the general presidential elections....and the mid-terms....and special elections....and even local elections. I voted for Trump in 2016....but jotted down a random write-in vote in 2020....and will probably leave it blank this year.....if the Lord wills it that I am even here....or that we even have an election.
Scott Baio played an interesting character. It's about an important congressional race....where the favorite....a conservative....suddenly dies....leaving a clear unobstructed path for the vehemently 'separation of church and state' opposition candidate. Someone is needed to run at this the last minute....and a pastor with a high public profile is chosen. Here's the thing....should this man run a 'digging up dirt' campaign....the only way he would supposedly win....or should he run an honest campaign and trust in God?
So where would MAGA come into this question....for MAGA is solidly on board the 'digging up dirt' method of making America great again? Trump or MAGA are never mentioned....that's not necessary for it is obvious who these opposing political ideologies are. So in essence the movie separates itself from MAGA methods....but the pastor candidate is essentially a MAGA candidate.
The film will be loved in some quarters and panned in others. I haven't seen any of the four preceding God's Not Dead movies. The acting was fine. It was a good film....but you see it's one of our films. It's for us....an edifying alternative to Beetlejuice or whatever else is out there right now....an afternoon at the movies where we are not assaulted in even the previews.
Note: the film ended with this verse....Psalm 20:7...."Some trust in chariots, and some in horses.....but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." Now before entering the theater I did what I usually do....and that is leave one of my website bookmarks on a few tables or benches....and on those 'books of the Bible' bookmarks reads....Psalm 20:7....Some Trust in Chariots...." No....this movie and I are not that far apart.
