The words have been quoted probably since they were written in the 19th century...."power tends to corrupt".....and...."absolute power corrupts absolutely." I've read a few descriptions of the man who penned these thoughts....Lord Acton....and the one that I think fits best would simply be....'sage.....a 19th century sage'.....someone most valued for giving thoughts just like this one.
It is my belief....and I have stated it many times....that both candidates.....Harris and Trump....are judgments upon us....from God....well-deserved judgments upon all of us. I need to reiterate this concerning Donald Trump....that evangelicalism essentially put this man in office....and in spite of all that has happened and all that we know....and are ignoring of him....we continue to pray for his return to office.
Well to those of us who know that all these preachers are wrong who are telling us how we need Donald Trump....a wolf in sheep's clothing....as the lesser of two evils....thus refusing to take any responsibility for what America has become....here is something that we might pray for....if it would be God's will....
Should neither candidate get 270 electoral votes....meaning that each would get 269 electoral votes....the election would go to the House for the President...and the Senate for the Vice President. You may not know this....the individual state delegations then would get one vote....with 26 votes needed to elect! The Senators would get one vote each....with 51 votes needed to elect.
Can you see any Democrat state delegations voting for Trump? I can't. Can you any Republican delegations voting for Harris? I can't. The result would probably be that someone considered a moderate would be chosen. They could even pick a Democrat for one position and a Republican for the other position.
Now there are other problems here.....for instance in some states they do not have laws that electors have to cast their vote according to how the popular vote went....but seriously folks....do you think there would be any individual electors who would take it upon themselves in this contentious culture to do that? I don't. It's one thing to do this as a protest vote....but another to do it and actually decide the president.
Even in this situation....all it could possibly do is give us some humble leaders who might seek God's wisdom in the coming storm.
Addendum: The evangelical's standard retort is that God can use Trump as He used someone like Cyrus....but if that is the case here....then why would Paul have given long and detailed descriptions of people to have nothing to do with....where the descriptions are basically a resume for Donald Trump? Why would Jude warn of men like Trump....and John as he described the many antichrists already out there. Why would Peter warn of false prophets...."by covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words."? And why would Jesus warn against false prophets if a man who is known for telling us how we are one glorious nation under God....and that our best is yet to come....was to be our hero?
