How Many Evangelicals Will He Lose?

               It was one of the last sermons from Martyn Lloyd-Jones who went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1981. You can Google it in a few seconds.....Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Render Unto Caesar. His voice is faltering a little bit....but at times it rises for emphasis....of which he is so well known.. He was warning the church of 1981 about getting its priorities mixed up....politics being one of them....and pleading with his listeners to return to that which matters most....our relationship with God.

               So we evangelicals are known for our passion for the sanctity of life. There was a vice president candidate debate the other day....and we have since been releasing our anger on the candidate Tim Wolz....because he is not pro-life. The fact that he seemed a decent man....respectful of the position that he was in....and his opponent....(this all a total departure from the politics that we have been held captive in for the past nine years)....none of this matters....the man has to be destroyed....for we in the church are professional destroyers now.
               It has been called....'bizarre'....a month before the election....Melania Trump released a book....and highlighted it with releasing a smooth video....on how she is passionately....a defender of abortion. It truly is bizarre. Why?
               I'm waiting for a comment or two from Robert Jeffress....or Franklin Graham. A few months ago Billy Graham's son tweeted this...."Today is @MELANIATRUMP's birthday. She is one classy lady. I know that Melania and her entire family are having a tough time as the former President goes though these dark waters. I'm sure it would be an encouragement for you to join me in wishing her a happy birthday! May God bless her this day,and may she sense His presence. May He bring calm and joy into her life." Would he tweet this if Melania's birthday were tomorrow?
               A Fox reporter asked the former president's opinion on Melania's support for abortion....this was obviously a planned question for Trump didn't blink....for he knew that he needed to address this fast. He said....very calmly...."We spoke about it, and I said, 'You have to write what you believe. I'm not going to tell you what to do. You have to write what you believe.' She's very beloved. People love our former first lady. I can tell you that. But I said, 'You have to stick with your heart,' I've said that to everybody....(did he say this to Mike Pence?)....'You have to go with your heart.' There are some people who are very, very far right on the issue, meaning without exceptions, and then there are other people who view it a little bit differently than that."
               Folks....Donald Trump has never cared one iota about abortion. He gave those Supreme Court judges because that's he how he got the job. A judge died....and he had no choice but to nominate a conservative.
                How will all of this affect his conservative support? I'm not sure. It won't affect the MAGA people....nothing could possibly negatively affect them. We all remember the boast at the beginning of all of this...."I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters..." Well....what we in evangelicalism have been doing for nine years now is putting Trump's election and presidency in front of the gospel of Jesus Christ....and I presume that most will do that here....but not all....the question therefore is more accurately stated....how many evangelicals will he lose....as the winnowing continues?
