We Need Tears In The Pulpit!

                I want to preface this Christian post with something political because they are related. It was the mid-90s or thereabouts....and it was one of the three high-profile women Democrats from California....either Boxer or Feinstein or Pelosi.....I can't remember which one and was unable to research it. She was in an interview....and the question was about conservatives who were complaining that our Constitution was not being followed. This California government official was frustrated and blurted out the comment....."What's all this talk about the Constitution?" It showed how back then Democrats did not care anything about the Constitution. Today....miraculously....they talk about the Constitution all the time....but it is a fake concern. Also today....we conservatives do the exact same thing....for we no longer care about if something that this president does is constitutional or not. That is the principle for the following:

                In 1980....(I'm just picking an arbitrary date)....our minds were fresh and inquisitive. We didn't think that we knew it all. We were not saturated with texting and smart phones and streaming and podcasts. We had three or four television stations....and Billy Graham was on all the time....and there were Christian ministers on the national scene....literally everywhere....some in retrospect may have been much better than others but they all had the gospel! Christian bookstores were literally everywhere....and Christian radio was a big thing! Everyone knew someone who had just become one of those born again Christians! 
                When we heard....and everyone would hear from one source or another....the story about Nicodemus visiting Jesus at night....and Jesus telling him that one had to be born again....born anew....born from above....it amazed us. It was new to us. The Holy Spirit saved multitudes in this type of preaching! 
                Today Nicodemus is just a name from a weekly Bible study....a quaint little story that really has no important meaning behind it. It's just like the Constitution. There was a time when it was a hallowed document....but today it is just talking point fodder.
                 The ground today is not tilled and ready for planting. The soil has been used and abused. Our minds have atrophied from lack of intellectual exercise. We are just followers today....and it is not Jesus whom we are following. We are not lambs being taken care of by shepherds....but rather calves....roped and branded. We need preaching not podcasts!!!! We need humility.....and mortification....not pride. We need stirring up....not towards anger and revenge....but of the things of God. We need to understand the visit of Nicodemus. We need mercy and forgiveness. We need tears in the pulpit!
