They Know Him Better Than We Know Him

                This is how we evangelicals typically view Donald Trump. Keep in mind that we really knew nothing about him in June of 2015 when he famously came down that escalator....other than he was rich.....was married three times....built skyscrapers....and owned golf courses. Of course there was that long running television show....The Apprentice....but Christians with any kind of discernment at all would not have wasted their time regularly watching something like that. So....he was kind of like Melchizedek....with no father or mother or genealogy or beginning of days. There's nothing really unusual here....but what is odd is that here we are a decade later and we evangelicals....seemingly still do not know much about this man....which is one reason why we have not yet outright rejected him....as just about all the liberals wonder.....for I hear it all the time....as recently as a week ago....something like...."How can Christians support this man?". Well the answer to that is that we still do not know him....and something deep inside of us tells us that we do not want to know him....for if we did....we would repent in shame.
                   The liberals and progressives on the other hand....to one degree or another depending on how old they are....know very well who the real Donald Trump is....for he lived his whole life in their world. They don't eat their own....people like Hugh Hefner and Howard Stern and Jerry Springer....for they make the liberal life more interesting. So he was known back then as.....The Donald. 
                   When The Donald started fooling around with politics they just laughed it off....and then when he was nominated the first time....they just nervously laughed it off....and now....well turn on The View or one of the late night shows. They are livid that one of their own could turn on them....and to make matters worse....they know that he has no ideology at all....and is a con man who has no concept of the meaning of truth....so they look at us and wonder.....how we can be so stupid.
                    Now there are those on our side....mostly old establishment types.....but plenty of evangelicals like myself....who have taken the time to learn about who Donald Trump has always been. Who was he when he started making big money....using his father's money....and why did they call him....The Donald....and what was his business tactics....and how did he treat people....and why did so many people dislike and distrust him. Mitch McConnell knows the real Donald Trump....and so does General John Kelly....and Mike Pence....and so many more. One problem is that the average pastor today relies on the image....and no longer the written word....and the written word is where one would find out about Donald Trump....while Trump himself is a master of the image.
