And The Winner Isn't...

Well, in the Garden of Eden Eve handed the fruit of the tree to Adam to eat, but last night the man handed the card to the woman to read and all Hades broke loose. I guess that Warren Beatty should have noticed that something was wrong with the card but he didn't think quick enough. Faye Dunaway only took a quick glance and read the incorrect card. Beatty is 79 and Dunaway is 76.
It was a fitting end of the award show I guess, indicative of the tragedy that movie making has become. The image rules us today...it's no longer the word....written or spoken. The Academy Awards show last night, from what I read, was a microcosm of America itself....utter confusion....vanity....and politically correct nonsense.
So recently we have had Meryl Streep play Florence Foster Jenkins and then become Florence Foster Jenkins in real life, and now Warren Beatty, who played Howard Hughes in his latest film Rules Don't Apply, became Howard Hughes in real life. Hillary Clinton...early on election evening...thought that she had won the election, and I would assume that most of the Atlanta Falcons fans thought at halftime that they had the Super Bowl in the bag.
So it is with conservatives today as they expect President Trump to make America great again without he...us...or anyone showing any remorse for what we have done; and so it is with many Christians today who expect to be raptured out before the red horse of Revelation brings war to this world. Presumption and arrogance has replaced observation and humility.
Here's the scenario....a metropolitan city offers to pay a very famous artist to paint a large painting of that particular city highlighting its people, architecture and accomplishments. They will pay him $100,000 for his work! This artist now counts on an additional $100,000 of wealth added to his bank account. He comes up with what he thinks is a great idea. He paints four more of the same paintings thinking that he will then have $400,000 more of wealth when the city buys them. He goes a step further and buys a half million dollar real estate property....putting money of his own down with a promise to pay the rest when he receives the $500,000 from the city for his paintings.
Of course this is all nonsense. The city is not going to need even one more painting let alone four more paintings, and the fact that there are now five paintings actually depreciates the artistic value of the original painting that the city said that it would buy; so the city lowers its offer to $50,000. The artist is now $500,000 in debt and has only $50,000 coming in.
This is similar to expectations in the stock market today. It goes up and up while investors are encouraged to buy even more....why....because it's going up and up. The market is grossly overvalued....but that's a problem for tomorrow....and we are determined to live for today.
Folks, these are otherwise intelligent individuals running the show on Wall Street, and they are up on the stage right now giving their acceptance speech, but there has been an error! The image of that golden statuette should have warned us long ago that something was terribly amiss but it is too late now, for the image has triumphed and the written and spoken word hijacked!
The following post was written after a similar mistake was made at the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant.

"There Has Been An Error"

I know that you read about it by now but did you see that Miss Universe Pageant? I saw the clip on YouTube. It wasn't life or death but it was still hard to watch. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the Master of Ceremonies crowned the wrong contestant! He crowned the runner-up. Immediately after that it was just like any other major beauty pageant with the pomp and celebration. And then the MC was told the error. It was all on live television. He had to apologize and find the words to explain what happened. Miss Columbia didn't move a muscle as her world temporarily collapsed around her.
I had a similarly embarrassing situation happen to me earlier in life. It wasn't millions of people watching but it was probably a few thousand. I don't want to give the specifics of the incident other to say that it was an achievement but not a title or a win or even an award. Nonetheless it was a difficult moment, one that for better or worse had an impact in my life. Well, enough of that!
Are you sure that you are a Christian? Now you don't know me from Adam so you should be able to freely meditate on this. I'm not referring here to things that you do or might not do as criteria for being a Christian. I'll simply ask one question.....are you, or have you ever been, overwhelmed.... overwhelmed.... overwhelmed....by God's grace towards you? If not.... then there may have been an error.....for one can outwardly adhere to the Christian faith as one would with any other of the world's religions...but know not Christ.....or be covered by His shed blood.
