This man has a great tailor...and a very good hairdresser...his beautiful and elegant wife dresses him to the nines...and he has some capable speechwriters. I'm speaking of President Trump of course on his speech last night to a Joint Session of Congress that I watched on C-SPAN where there's no idiotic commentary. And it was so good not to have to look at a bright blue or bright red tie for an hour, for he wore a thin striped navy.
I have no problem with the Democrats sitting throughout most of the speech for that's exactly what the Republicans should have done when Barack Obama was behind that podium. I thought that they were respectful with one exception...they started to leave immediately after the speech was over as if this were a movie theater.
Donald Trump is no longer someone to laugh at. I think there were only two or three small grammatical miscues and all around those were some profound sentiments and very discernible statesmanship. If you have read much of these posts then you know that I do not buy into...'Make America Great Again'...but I'm more amenable to....'We Have A President Again'...with reservations.
It wasn't a State Of The Union Address, something that Thomas Jefferson refused to give for its resemblance to England's Speech From The Throne and something that has become nothing less than a monstrosity in recent years. President Trump's speech last night was necessary because it forced the Democrats to acknowledge him as president. It was a little light on the normal trappings and pomp and this was good. The campaign rhetoric was largely missing which was also good. Politically it was a huge success but unfortunately what also was missing was President Trump's acknowledgment of our complete dependence on God to weather this coming storm.
I hope that you don't think that this is a small thing because if we continue to think that we are going to make America great again in our own power and by our own might with little more than a passing 'God bless America' then our celebrating now will later be lamented as the misplaced hope that it is. Yes we now have a president where we did not have one for eight years but no...we do not have a God-fearing president... and this will be our final undoing if we do not acknowledge that what we are experiencing is God's judgment and not just poor governance.
Note: I did want to add these thoughts on a remarkable tribute given...and there were others.
It's my firm belief that last night in the 9:30 PM to 10:00 PM range EST that Carryn Owens, widow of U. S. Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens was probably the most prayed for person in the United States of America and probably the world. You know who she is I'm sure...the widow of one of our serviceman who was honored at President Trump's speech before the Joint Session of Congress. As the president spoke so eloquently about her and her husband she was having extreme difficulty maintaining her composure. I was determinately praying throughout the president's comments and the long applause I and know that Christians everywhere where doing the same thing.
