We don't get a lot of major snowstorms in Western Pennsylvania.....a lot less than in Buffalo where I was born anyway....so over the past few days people in our area were preparing for a big storm of about 8 inches of snow! Some of the shelves were empty when we went grocery shopping. Today....the day that the storm was to come....the streets and restaurants were almost empty....but it's 10 PM and all we have had so far is rain. The weather forecast was a bust.
There have been so-called prophesy teachers over the years who very famously set dates for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ....1844 was a big one....1988 another. Why does the existence of false prophesies effect us so....and turn us against God's legitimate warnings? There are going to be aberrations from false teachers in just about every doctrine of the Word of God. We have been adequately warned that false teachers and false prophets will abound! To let this discourage us is the lamest form of weakness. We have our work cut out for us....yes....so let's get to it.
One problem that we have to address is that it is perfectly natural for the people of a nation to see themselves as outside other time periods. There's an other worldliness to the wars and disasters of history. In other words we may like to study history but consider ourselves superior to history. We can envision a World War III....but as if from the outside....we would never actually be a part of it. It's the same with the Bubonic plague.....or even a 1929 Wall Street collapse for Pete's sake. We are us....we're America.....the Super Bowl is in a couple of weeks....there's nothing stopping that....now maybe forty years from now?
It would help if we could see ourselves clearly. We kill pre-born babies by the millions....tens of millions! The great state of New York just legalized killing our children in up to 24 weeks of pregnancy....and the the legislature cheered....they cheered! I used the word 'children' here.....they are our children.....pre-born children. Look at your own son or daughter....he or she was once a pre-born child....and was once a fertilized egg! Wake up friends....God is not going to let this country go unpunished. We teach our children that there is no God! We actually lead them into what God calls abominations! God's Word tells us that it would be better to never be born than to do just what we are doing! We've got more idols that ancient Greece.....more Gods than Rome. Who are the real fools here?
I was communicating recently with a friend who needs desperately to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ preached. He lives a thousand miles away. It took me all evening to find a church in his area where the cross is actually preached! I thank the Lord for the church that I did find for him. Yet we think that church in America is just fine....Spoiler Alert....it isn't!
Look at England friends. The gospel went out to the whole world from this nation! They brought it to these shores that we sunbathe on today. It had men who preached Jesus Christ gloriously in the 1800s and prior to that....gloriously.....preaching the likes of which you have probably never heard....but the church in England tumbled down a slippery slope.....and today this once proud nation in effect doesn't even want to be England anymore....but just a vassal for godless leaders from nations further away from God than they are.
And then there's us! "God bless America".....of all the ridiculous phrases today....that one is high on the list. Billy Graham wrote a book many years ago titled Storm Warning. Folks that storm is coming....Jeremiah warned and wept for forty years! Those false prophets from our past give us all the excuse we need to ignore God's very clear warning. Did you ever wonder whether Satan may have something to do with these false prophets? So this coming Lord's Day....actually it will be more like Tom Brady's Day....there will once again be no warning coming from our pulpits.....these men are too sophisticated for that.....and way to educated.....but thinking that they are watching over their sheep....they are just fattening them up for the wolves.
Update: The Republicans at the State Of The Union Address broke out in chants of USA...USA...USA. Madness.
