At first I thought it was a sermon that I was listening to.....but about halfway through it became obvious that the young preacher was speaking at a conference. It would have been a wonderful sermon also. There was an unction in his voice that we do not hear often today....although it would have been a regular weekly thing in Charles Spurgeon's pulpit in London over most of the latter half of the 19th century. There must have been other ministers present....and the young speaker at one point seemed to discourage merely bringing men like Charles Spurgeon back to mind....but rather that we must produce a Spurgeon and Calvin and Edwards and Luther. We were to give God no rest in our petitions....and all so that this nation of ours would give God the glory that is due Him.
Well I would never argue with that message....for we should never stop petitioning God.....always tugging at His cloak as it were....always crying out to be healed.....always bugging the king so that he would give us what we want....to get us out of his hair....or so the King of Kings has told us to do. Yes it is revival that we desire....and a great awakening....and a reformation if there is time....but there is something that we should desire even more...."Maranatha....Lord Jesus Come!"
It is not an either/or situation....but a yes/yes petition....Lord Jesus come....come now....for this world is as a ship where the engineer has come up to the bridge and given the bad news....she is going to flounder! Lord gather us together as one....give us a voice to shout with....endue it with the power of Thy Holy Spirit....bring multitudes in with the same mercy that has been extended to us.....do all this Lord if Thou art willing....for Thou art able!
There is a music composition playing very softly next to me as I type.....and I had to look over and see what it was.....a piano composition played by Richard Clayderman.....I Want To Know What Love is....you would recognize it.....for it is beautiful. Oh Lord....so many want to know what love is....and here it is Thee. Thou art love. Whether Thou tarries or are right now in that cloud racing towards us with Thy mighty angels....it matters more that we desire to see Thee....even as a child's eyes glisten as they look upon that wonderful present before them....just waiting for the parent to say...."You can open it up now!"
