Someone in the crowd asked Jesus to command his brother to share the family inheritance with him. The man in the crowd only wanted what was his by right.....his fair share. Jesus said to that man in the crowd...."Man.....who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"
When the Christian demand is....America First.....they are in effect asking that they get what is theirs by right. They are also thereby in effect going to Jesus....just as that man in the crowd....and requesting that He use His power to make this happen in America.
It is no coincidence that Jesus immediately began to warn against covetousness....and then came the parable where a rich man had such a plenteous crop that he was going to tear down his old barns to build bigger ones. This today would be like borrowing....even though we were rich....to become richer. Then the rich man....after many years....in effect talks about retirement. God's response....as you remember...."Fool! This night your soul will be required of you..."
Whatever the day of birth....and the hour of birth....and the minute of birth....of any reader here....there was a man born in that same instant elsewhere in the world....maybe a village in Africa or China....or in Albania....or North Korea. What is it that we think ourselves so special? Are we any more special than a man squating right now over a fire in Africa....his gathering sticks for a living having been completed for the day?
All of you readers here who have listened to a fair amount of talk radio over the years....how many times have you heard Hannity or someone else say that America is the greatest nation ever on the face of the earth? Surely you have heard that many times. I bring this up because these speakers either purposely or out of ignorance forgot about ancient Israel....and even with Old Testament Israel....it was either a time where they followed God....or God let them go on their own.
Jesus today....most particularly in the past six years....is as if responding to us....."Man....who made me a judge of political elections?" It seems as if everyone in America knows how politics has poisoned evangelicalism.....everyone except us that is....and apparently most of the pundits....but few of the pulpits.
