It is a very complicated situation in that we find ourselves. If our eyes are open....we should not only see that the Lord's return is near.....but considering what this world has become....and where it is going....we should look with hope to His return....but that is not how it is with us.
We have over time made it such that this transition from today's evangelicalism to the beginnings of what the Bible terms as the Tribulation....(and it may have even already started)....is a transition that we are proving unable to make.....because we have not been vigilant....and worse than that....we have not even been interested. We do not know what is going on....because we do not want to know.
We should be transitioning from a vigilant and clear-eyed and faithful people....to the coming of the King of Kings....but instead we will be transitioning from an easy-believism....user-friendly....megachurch....MAGAchurch mentality....through the stark reality of the power of evil unfolding before us right now. Along with this will come the painful acknowledgment that we were on the wrong path all along....that we essentially sought our own glory....when the majesty of majesties was right there before us in His Word! This will not be an easy transition....and the effects of confusion can already be seen.
Christ is no longer on the pedestal....for we are on that pedestal. We certainly would not state it as such....but we actually believe and live the modern gospel of the late 20th and early 21st centuries....where God primarily wants us to realize our own glory and potential....whereas in reality....it is....has always been....and will always be....His glory! His glory is what we are to glory in! All glory is His glory! We have utterly lost this blessed concept....even though it is literally all over God's Word.....as Paul rails on it....and David dances to it.....and Peter humbles himself before it....and John proclaims....and the writer of Hebrews was so overcome with humility in his topic matter of the glory of God....that he didn't even put his name to that glorious book!
There are few preachers who even understand this today let alone proclaim it from their pulpits. Their ultimate mission is to defend their congregation....and encourage them....in that they are on the right path. The mission of the congregation is to defend their pastor....and encourage him.....or her....that their ministry is on the right path! Instead of defending God's Word....we vicariously defend ourselves....by defending either the pastor....or the pastor defending us!
We are not into mortification. We do not even know what that means. We don't examine our motives. We don't even consider the possibility that we might have missed something. We are into politics. It's those bad people on the other side that have clouded our futures.....we had nothing to do with it! We just want to go back a few decades. Although we don't really want to be like the Christians of a few decades past....for they were a little too syrupy in their devotions....way too focused on being born again....and a little too fanatical on this God judging us thing. We want to go back to Reagan....not Billy Graham.
