A Pyrrhic victory....was coined after the Greek King Pyrrhus....after successful battles against Rome....lost so many soldiers that he couldn't afford many more such....'victories.' We use the term often today....and there are numerous examples where successful battles and wars were described as....Pyrrhic victories. I'll give only one example. The Confederate army crushed the Union army at the battle of Chancellorsville....as Stonewall Jackson flanked the unsuspecting Union troops and routed them. Jackson was accidetnly killed by his own men in the victory....and this not long before the two armies met again at Gettysburg....where had Jackson been there....the advantage to the Union in defending the high ground would probably not have existed.
Roe v Wade was overturned today as you know. Abortion is no longer guaranteed in the United States....as the individual states will make their own decisions. We should be thankful for this decision....for partial as it is....it was a long time coming. The United States no longer....'sanctions'....the killing of the preborn as a constitutional right....although it does still....'sanction'....the killing of the preborn in the individual states where abortion will be legal.
What may happen now is that congressional races....and gubernatorial races....even state-wide races....will be fought to a large part over the issue of abortion. There may be another consequence of this decision....making it a possible Pyrrhic victory.....and that is that the already decimated evangelical church in America....decimated in that the gospel has been pushed to the background in favor of politics....and our relying on our own might....over faithfully trusting in God....may even get worse...." 'Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts." (Zechariah 4:6)
