How many times have I heard the phrase....the best is yet to come....at the very end of just about every rally? Dozens of times at least! I would take issue with that phrase every time....for it was not true.....in fact it was a false prophecy. I know this because God's Word tells us that today....His wrath and judgment is ahead....and He has given more than enough evidence in His Word of this.
There is a scene in that oh so very humbling....Billy Graham World Wide Pictures produced....1975 and now classic film....The Hiding Place....where Betsy is challenged in the concentration camp barracks by a vehement skeptic....concerning all the death and suffering everywhere in the camp. Seeing and feeling this every day....how could she....Betsy....know that God's Word is true. Betsy softly answered her interrogator...."We know Him....so we know that it is true." This is profound theology....from a simple believer....we know....because we know Him....and He knows us! If one does not know Him....if one is not His....nothing will make sense.
I watched the film again tonight....for the upteenth time over the decades....and at the end....where Corrie ten Boom herself gave testimony....she said this....which was an essential part of the script....for Betsy had previously said it to Corrie....
"No pit is so deep that He is not deeper still. With Jesus even in our darkest moments....the best remains....and the very best is yet to be."
Do you see the contrast here with the rally cry? Do you see why I'm bringing it up....indeed why I had to come to this computer to write this post? Yes....the best is yet to come! And praise God forever and ever for that! But it is not pointing to earthly or temporal needs....but to the rejoicing in being in the presence of our Lord and Savior and coming King....Jesus Christ....also for ever and ever!
