You....dear reader....are living history right now. Well technically....even if it's a period with practically nothing shaking going on....it is still history.....but this day that we are living in is the culmination....as the strongest power that this world had ever known....us....is in the midst of a freefall collapse....with chaos ahead.
We are roughly at six-thousand years of human history....and roughly two-thousand years since the Jesus Christ of Nazareth walked the earth....stirring up demons by His mere presence. If the antichrist is a man....he is walking the earth as an adult right now. If it turns out to be something other than a man....an image of artificial intelligence or something of that sort....the capability is in place.
People are still marrying and giving in marriage. I am on my patio as I type this and the scene is bucolic. The birds are taking a nap after singing all morning. Beneath....or rather behind all of this....the earth groans and the cosmos spits....and demons fidget....in the expectation of the coming of the Son of Man...."in the glory of His Father, with His angels."
Forty years ago it was common in evangelical churches to hear that God would judge the church first. When is the last time that you heard that verse....1 Peter 4:17...."and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?"
Who woulda thunk it....a false prophet....and an antichrist....and who knows....maybe even....the....Antichrist....becomes the hero and the savior of....the church? Amazing.....and sobering!
How often or how much have you ever thought about how Israel and then Judah had all those idols everywhere? I mean we have read it often but have we ever wondered how that could have been? I had thought about it often....it seemed so odd to have the temple and the law....and statues of other gods.....until I came to see my own idols. An idol does not have to be a little figurine. It can be money....or fame....or vanity....or happiness....or family....or even love. It can be a sport or an entertainment....or a hobby. It can be pride or hate or revenge. In other words....idolatry is everywhere today. That was the biggest rebellion of Israel and of Judah....and it brought God's judgment upon them....and it is our biggest rebellion to God also.
The shepherds slumbered. The wolves came and there was no warning. We also heard often back then the metaphor of the frog in the kettle....where if it were thrown into boiling water it would have jumped out....but put it in lukewarm water and turn up the heat and it won't know what hits it. We did not realize at the time that we were describing what would happen to us.....evangelicals....the church. Little by little we stopped thinking about Jesus returning. Less and less and then nothing....was teaching on the holiness of God. We were Christian voters who became political animals. We once welcomed minorities with open arms....and now our arms are outstretched keeping them away. We no longer know the definition of love as we once knew it....no longer have compassion as we once had....but are driven by revenge....once a holy convocation....now a mob....once peculiar....now very ordinary.
