Oh a month or so ago a young man....out of the blue.....asked me for advice on how to start reading the Bible. We talked for a while....and an hour after the conversation I had two books on the way to him from Amazon. We don't have time to put off things of this nature. We never have time on issues such as our own salvation. This is why I might....as I did two posts below this....make a negative comment on weekly Bible studies. We are not in a once a week or twice a week spiritual war.
Being the beginning of the year....John Piper's program today....(please go and listen to this at desiringgod.org.) starts with a recommendation to read the Bible in a year through the Navigator's program. The title of this Q&A is The Spiritual Battles In Your Bible Reading.
I would never....as with the young man above for example....recommend a read the Bible in a year program....but in this case with John Piper it is something different. He is recommending such a program as something supplemental....or in addition to....everything else needed in the Christian's life. I check in to John Piper's desiringgod.org every day....there are four or five new article or sermon offerings every day....and the reader would not realize that a 'read the Bible in a year' program is somewhere in the mix.
Addendum: I wanted to add a recommendation for you to boot up on your computer or watch on ROKU the 1998 film....Jeremiah....with Patrick Dempsey and Oliver Reed. Reed died not long after making this film while playing Proximo in the 2000 film....Gladiator. I've liked this film but I see something new every time that I watch it....last night being about the tenth time. There are a couple of themes that stray from God's Word but considering the message that the film gives....they are insignificant.
