Woe Are Us

I don't know that the American evangelical ever actually desired to see Jesus return....but we definitely do not look at it as a serious possibility at this time. It is really right now just a catechism question....and answer....an assent to a doctrinal truth....with no emotion or passion or even personal preference involved.
Salvation itself to the evangelical today is really just being a good person. God will find a way to save that good person. All of that which is written in God's Word about being born again is subjective.....and all the commands about abiding in Christ and separating from the world and everyone experiencing persecution is just part of a narrative meant more to reflect upon than to actually interpret as God's real no-nonsense directions.
God's holiness....of which back in the 1980s we would sit in awe as we listened to a sermon or a teaching on it....is long gone. That is why we today went the way of Balaam....and have no discernment of our own guilt in this culture and society....and why pride and greed and even hate guides us as we want for America what is ours.....for we are tired of not getting what is ours.....and if anyone disagrees.....we will in one way or another.....destroy them....with our great military might if necessary! We no longer care about anyone else.
Folks....this is a falling away from the gospel. This is God having judged His church....first. We are as was Israel....and Judah her treacherous sister. Our pulpits only warn slightly. Our itching ears have chosen the false prophets that tell us what we want to hear. Our churches....far too many of them....are white-washed sepulchers. Our own personal idols litter our homes and our minds. Woe are us....for we have been destroyed for lack of knowledge....trusting in broken cisterns....and in our distress not looking to God for our help.
