The Enemy Within

              The book....Seven Days In May....was published in September of 1962. President Kennedy read it....and was taken by it so much that he encouraged that it be made into a film.....and went so far as to return to Cape Cod for a while so that he would not be in the White House when parts of the film were staged on the street in front of the White House. It was also reported by his top speech writer....Ted Sorensen....that JFK wanted everyone in his administration to see the film when it was completed. Of course....JFK never got to see the movie that starred Burt Lancaster as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who was behind the delicate and well planned out coup that was to take place in seven days
               The film came out in 1964....62 years ago....so there is no need to give a spoiler alert here. Four members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff conspired to remove a president who they thought was too soft on the threat of the Soviet Union and Communism. It would have worked but a main character in the story....a colonel who had a high job for the Joint Chiefs....saw something suspicious....one thing led to another....and the president discovered the plot.
                Here is why I am doing this post....when the coup was discovered....and stopped....the public was never told about it. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and others were allowed to resign....the reason given was that their differences with the president were so great that it was thought the best thing to do was for them to just leave!
                Are you possibly a golfer....maybe a painter in oils....or some other life-long passion? Well I have spent at least fifty years in the study of what happened on the day in November of 1963. Not a year has passed when I did not at some point binge for a while in research. What has always bothered me was that our own government could so successfully cover up what really happened....but just as in the movie....it was thought that the public should not know....because they might panic!
                There is another reason for posting this. It is highly likely that rogue elements of our government somewhere....were involved. It is an absolute definite....that Oswald was chosen....and maneuvered....as a patsy....to take the blame. We the public....and we evangelicals....need to know what some in America are capable of. We need to know how passion....along with complete confidence that they are right on some issue....thinking themselves the good guys....and the real patriots....what they are capable of doing!
                 The 1964 film starred Kirk Douglas along with Burt Lancaster. There was a TV remake movie made in 1994....under a different title....The Enemy Within....with Forest Whitaker in Kirk Douglas's role....Jason Robards in Burt Lancaster's role....and Sam Waterston as the president. Interestingly...that title....The Enemy Within....is the same title of Bobby Kennedy's 1960 autobiographical account of the Kennedy brothers work in the Congress....against organized crime.
