It's been an interesting afternoon in a few ways for we had the opportunity to observe two occurrences....one disheartening....and the other remarkable. The first revolved around the quarterly GDP statistics on the economy. Mark Twain said that there are three kinds of lies...."lies, damned lies, and statistics." The statistics that came out today were not lies but they were also not as clear as one figure....4.1%....would make them out to be....for there were some 'one time' influences that will not occur again....but nonetheless the figure was good and a testament primarily to conservative economics taking over from the restrictive Obama years.
That's not what I'm pointing to here though. It's the reaction from us....conservatives....that is remarkable. Esau sold his birthright for...."a mess of pottage." He wanted something right then and could see no further than the present. In a way we conservatives are selling our birthright. That birthright is in the last sentence of the Declaration of Independence....."And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor,"
We want something right now....we have long since forsaken reliance on "Divine Providence" in favor of reliance on 'princes.' We were not thirteen colonies but we were figuratively thirteen different groups....acting in unity....that petitioned the government over serious grievances through the electoral process. Having won that petition a certain percentage of those thirteen groups forgot about that pledge....they had what they wanted....economic and international hegemony.....although those things are only in appearances....and can disappear as quickly as one eats a mess of pottage. So as it stands right now....we have abdicated our responsibilities required to maintain that birthright.

The second occurrence this afternoon was the 'once in a lifetime' total lunar eclipse and blood moon....'once in a lifetime' due to the extended time of the eclipse.... and blood moon in that it allows only the reddish rays of the sun to illuminate it. As I sat here going from one 'live' viewing of the eclipse to another from different broadcast sources.....almost on the other side of the world.....I thought about Revelation 1:7....NASB...."BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen."
