Preface to this post from a month ago: My alarm goes off a few minutes after six in the morning every weekday.....and I fumble with the Sirius/ Xm app on my iPhone to listen to the Patriot Channel as I struggle to wake up having just gone to bed around two in the morning. Today a host lamented that the Mueller probe was distracting President Trump from building the wall. Walls work....and Candidate Trump promised a big beautiful wall ....but this was but one of the many promises that he made primarily to get elected....for in reality he could not care less if a wall is built. The Mueller probe has not been a distraction....it's been and excuse. Conservative radio talk show hosts like to label President Trump's daily incitements to anger in the media as 'trolling' where he most brilliantly controls the narrative....and in part it is brilliant.....brilliantly evil in that he stirs up anger in his base as well as the media while the media gets all the blame....whereas they only deserve half of the blame. President Trump complains too much...too consistently...and too wildly.... for this just to be trolling. Mueller has conducted an extraordinarily quiet probe yet Rudy Giuliani recently to him to "put up or shut up." Trolling has quite a while ago turned into panic. One thing is for sure....the probe is to continue until Mueller says that it's done. Then he will speak....then we'll consider....and then make up our own mind.
In retrospect....looking back as the conservative movement was weakened, changed in its essence, and taken over by Donald Trump...the Achilles Heel of the movement that dispatched the Republican elites and brought Mr. Trump to the White House was it's own version of special interest groups. As it turns out we never were one....as we had the 'build the wall' people and the 'give us tax reform' people along with the military might and economic hegemony patriots. We had the Christian pro-life/pro-family conservatives and the libertarian types.....the debt bomb prognosticators....Second Amendment NRA and the repeal Obamacare people. You may be like me in that I'm a little bit to a lot of every one of these groups....for they are all related at the core. The problem is that not everyone is so united in their feelings.
There is a line in Shakespeare's Hamlet that over the years has taken on a meaning that Shakespeare did not intend....but it's an established idiom all its own today. That line is "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" We use that today when someone protests so much that we begin to wonder if there is not some truth in whatever is being protested. For a year and half President Trump has scrambled the brains of his supporters with almost daily attacks on the Mueller investigation. A year ago I wrote in these posts to just give the investigation public notice that it has a few more months and its over. That wouldn't be firing Mueller but giving him advance warning to do his job quickly....but instead Trump choose to fight the legitimacy of the investigation every day!
The president doth protest too much, methinks! President Trump's antics in Helsinki as he absolved much of what Putin does by blaming the Mueller investigation.....was way beyond the pale. This unpredictability of President Trump is serious stuff. One minute he is yelling at Kim Jong-un the next minute he's praising him. The same goes with Xi Jinping and now Vladimir Putin. This summit was President Trump allying with Vladimir Putin against the West....and many are now beginning to wonder why Donald Trump had so much trouble defending NATO or even America! What's referred to today as 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' may tomorrow be referred to as 'Trump's....Derangement Syndrome.'
