I saw the words that Breitbart had splashed on its news website and uttered....."Lord...open our eyes with these words." Maybe President Trump is using this phrase at all his rallies but it's only the second time that I've seen it. That Breitbart headline is....in all caps...."AMERICA ONE GLORIOUS NATION UNDER GOD." I know that pastors all around America read Breitbart as they read Drudge and Fox for their news....should the Lord will it they will see the absurdity....that should need no explanation....in the construction of this phrase....and think again about Donald Trump....or any president....and maybe it will be the impetus for them to warn their congregations not to place their trust in men....or in princes....or in their own might.
God has warned us....very clearly and persistently....for many decades....from good men such as Billy Graham....and the best we could do is 'make America great again.' Surely God watches all of this....our arrogance without in ourselves having changed one iota....this is my opinion of course. When the Israelites acted this way in spite of God's warnings....He simply said....go ahead and build....I will tear down. The following post is from September of 2017:
If Only Our Pulpits Would Do The Same
I typed as fast as I could as Franklin Graham gave this prayer at a President Trump rally recently in Phoenix. I Praised God as I typed....for many Americans who were watching this live on the Internet....as I was....would get to at least hear once such powerful words of repentance....words which should be proclaimed from our pulpits each and every Lord's Day....but are not.
The crowd was sober-minded as they listened....with surely many Christians in attendance....and gave the Reverend Graham appreciative applause as he exited the stage. Vice President Pence followed and within minutes the large crowd gathered in the arena was back to shouting USA...USA...USA! The power of that prayer by Rev. Graham was gone....but many had heard it.....and they will surely offer the same prayer themselves someday.....only it will be amidst the chaos.....and not before it....where we could have petitioned God for mercy....and forgiveness....and wisdom....and strength....and His hand upon us....in the coming storm. These are those words as I typed them:
"Our Heavenly Father....you've blessed our country more than any nation on earth and we acknowledge that apart for you we have no hope....we come tonight....as a troubled nation....we're broken spiritually....were divided politically....we're divided racially....we are adrift morally.....following whatever direction the wind of popular culture blows....with no regard for your word or the consequences of our disobedience....we ask tonight for your help....our sins have paralyzed us....as a country we seemed to have forgotten right from wrong....you warned us in your Holy Word the Bible that there would come a time when truth would become a lie....and lies would become truth....we come to you this evening confessing our sins as a nation....we confess the sins of our past....of injustice....of pride....of self-indulgence....we have failed to protect our young and our innocent.....and we ask for your forgiveness....we ask that you would unite this country for your glory....Father we need a shepherd....I pray that you would be the shepherd of our nation..... you are the God who restores our souls.....your rod and your staff they comfort us....and I pray this all in the name...the powerful name....the name of your son....the Lord Jesus Christ."
