Preface: To vote for a man such as Donald Trump who lies every day of his life....about anything and everything....does not make sense. Evangelicals are in effect saying that God has given us a vile and deceitful man with no truth in him....no truth in him....in an answer to prayer. To assuage our concerns they have assured us...that God can use vile and deceptive men with no truth in them....and indeed God can....he can use men like this to bring judgment. Donald Trump....like all rulers....from all time....was raised up in accordance with God's will. We got that right....but we built on that our own explanation of why.
Michigan congressman Justin Amash....formerly republican but now independent....somewhat ended speculation over whether or not he will run a third party campaign for president as he announced last night that he is forming an exploratory committee as to seeking the Libertarian Party's nomination. The congressman already has a website up....amashforamerica.com.
Supposedly....someone once asked Martin Luther what he would do if he knew for certain that Jesus was returning the very next day. Luther answered that he would plant a tree. The meaning of course is that we are to work our normal lives....normal in that we would seek righteousness in a nation no matter what the circumstances. In America that would mean that we as individuals accept our responsibilities....do our best to be vigilant and informed....take part in the political process....and at least cast a vote for God-fearing candidates.
So I intend to support the effort by Congressman Amash....gratified in that there is a challenge to our government's ignorance and arrogance....but fully realizing that a storm of Noahic proportions is ahead. I do not agree on everything with Justin Amash....and he would not agree with all of my beliefs....but he rose to the need of the moment....whereas others had not. We now at least have a candidate who actually is who he says that he is. My prayer is that God would grant him wisdom and strength....that no matter how this campaign would turn out....that it would serve God's purpose....and that we would clearly see as the days go on what that purpose might be.
