The American government today operates similar to what two mob families would as they war against each other for control of turf....each having their own specific....'financial interests.'....shall we say. It would be as one mob family has control of drugs and gambling while the other has prostitution and racketeering. That's how these two political parties shape up. The Democrats want control of the voting booth....while the Republicans want legislative gifts to give to their base....evangelicals and Tea Party people and NRA people and on down the line....each to keep their standing and membership up in their respective 'families.'
They would both show up at the obligatory dinners and celebrations and funerals....and indeed behind the scenes they could yuck it up like there's no problems at all....but that peace only needed a spark....and then came Trump....a godfather wannabe who survived his own troubles with no little help from Russian....'financial interests'....shall we say again. The final result....at least the final result so far....is that Trump took over the 'reign' of the Republican....'family'....and is in the process of purging everyone from both 'families' who are a threat. He's no longer the comical....The Donald....but the Don who will cut one off at the knees over even the slightest provocation.
The Feds were kept busy at times with both parties but have for many decades had to keep an eye on an American businessman who seemed always to be trying to build a tower in Russia....but nothing ever happened....other than oligarchs pouring money into his American properties....while a Russian mob established itself as the major player in American white collar crime. These intelligence professionals are now being purged and replaced with others who do not have the experience or the analytical abilities or even the desire to look beyond their own personal and political biases....and we are far less secure because of it.
Most of our news media....if you can still call it news media anymore....seemed to have been given an offer they can't refuse....with an important exception in Drudge. This new 'Don' on the scene has a very effective select group of 'consiglieres' or enforcers in Congress and talk radio. As for us.....regular citizens....we just keep paying protection money....in the form of campaign contributions....reliable votes....and asking no questions.
