My wife and I took advantage of our pastor being away....and drove a couple of hours to Chagrin Falls for an overnight to hear Alistair Begg preach....and visit the town in the process. I'm sitting in the breakfast room of a Hampton Inn writing this....because it is heavy on my heart for a number of reasons. I would feel fortunate if you make it to the end of the post.
There are 52 Lord's Days in a year....52 trips to heaven's gym....52 check-ups to the emergency room....52 celebration feasts....52 family reunions....and 52 glimpses of God's Word and the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ preached with power....52 plus....means of grace....and you better believe it....Satan doesn't like it!
So he's done a pretty good job of ameliorating the problem. Mother's Day is but one.....Father's Day another.....Christmas at times.....Easter bunnies....Super Bowls.....(that's a real big one)....birthdays are big ones....Academy Awards and every other awards they can give.
So maybe one person took their mother out to day dinner every Mother's Day of their adult lives....I personally in some way....(feeble attempts in line with my feeble faith)....choose to mention Jesus Christ and His faithfulness every day that I saw my mother. Yeah....I guess that the other way brought a lot of smiles and happiness to their mother that I didn't take advantage of....(although we celebrated a lot of Mother's Day on the previous Saturday)....but my primary hope is that my mother has an eternity of smiles.
Update: This was my second time at Parkside Church....an obviously strong church that glorifies Jesus. I don't sing along with the praise songs because I did that for ten years....and in my case I know for a fact that I sang for the wrong reason....if that is not the case with you....then....You're a better man than I am, Gunda Din....but having said that....a day is coming that whatever song comes from our mouths will of necessity be for the right reason....for there is a unity coming....along with a winnowing....and an identifiable remnant. May God keep us and increase that remnant!
