At 75 years old I've traveled a fair amount. I've always been super-proud to be an American. I was proud to be American in Vietnam....and in Australia....and in South America....and in Europe....and it goes without saying in Canada! There was a special kinship with Europeans....especially the English....for that is my primary genealogical background. Someone else traced Special Dogs back to the 1300s in England...and if you would visit the Tower of London you would see my surname emblazoned on one of the tower walls. If you were to look over the favorite movies in my profile....you would see that half of them are English films about English history.
Christianity in America would be nothing without the Puritans and George Whitefield and Spurgeon and Bunyan and Martyn Lloyd Jones....let alone without the continent's Luther and Calvin. Churchill was the greatest leader in the war-torn twentieth century....with Reagan and Thatcher following in his footsteps.
Our alliances with Europe struck fear into the communists and all of our enemies. Tonight as I type this....the Academy Awards are on television. In 1999 there was a film that won Best Foreign Film....and Best Actor....Life Is Beautiful is the name of that movie....and one scene sticks out in that film....near the end....in a concentration camp....(this the best that I can remember it)....the roar of a tank is heard....and it comes into view....a Sherman Tank with that American star on it! May God forgive us for our America First ideology that threatens covenants and sells promises for the almighty dollar and destroys friendships. May we not become the ugly American.
These were not wars to end all wars....and the Cold War kept us vigilant for decades as tens of millions died....many of them from KGB operatives....of whom Putin was and probably still is in his ideology. There will be no peace until the Prince of Peace returns with fire in His eyes!
We have no Reagan today....and the influence of evangelicalism has waned almost beyond recognition....but our King is coming! You also can hear the thunder if you come out from the din of the crowd.
"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh."
