Donald Trump was raised on Norman Vincent Peale. He was married to Ivana by Reverend Peale, and he made his billions with positive thinking as his guiding force. His speeches and his rallies are filled with Norman Vincent Peale's positive thinking.
The Old Testament records a number of instances where a false prophet told the king....Oh king....everything is going to be just great....or something like that.....and then a Jeremiah or a Hosea comes up to the king and says something like.....I hope your dinner was good. God says that it's your last one.
Brothers and sisters in Christ......we are all aware of this.....that false prophets often preached peace and safety......that everything was going to be alright. Is it not possible that a man who was reared under the gospel of Norman Vincent Peale....and who admired him and referenced if not reverenced him his entire life.....that this man......President Trump....might not be concerned with reality as much as using positive thinking that has served him well up till now?
Do you remember this....."You're going to win so much that you'll get tired of winning?" Don't you think that there might be a clue here? The church has long since proven itself susceptible to positive thinking schemes....Joel Osteen being only the latest.
Positive thinking is not politics. It is rather on the periphery of the occult. How on earth did we let Ivanka and Jared into the Oval Office without a fight? How is it that everyone around President Trump gets the blame for his bad decisions? How do we who have railed for years on this enormous national debt all of a sudden forget about it and look at a hideously overvalued stock market as if it's the greatest thing that ever happened?
Donald Trump's positive thinking has mesmerized us. His tweeting habit is the epitome of poor taste, childish behavior and vindictiveness yet just about every conservative radio talk show host throws out a few 'I don't like it buts' before they join in the laughter.
Donald Trump says one thing about America but God may be saying another. Someone once said that if it walks like a duck and hangs around with other ducks it's probably a duck. We walk just like rebellious Israel and we hang around with others who only give lip service to God....my contention is that we are the same as rebellious Israel.
Consider this from the 22nd chapter of 2nd Kings. Jehoshaphat was visiting Israel's King Ahab....which wasn't a good thing to do to begin with....and war was being considered against Ramoth-Gilead. Jehoshaphat wanted to inquire of the LORD. Ahab gathered his false prophets but Jehoshaphat interrupted...."Isn't there a prophet of Yahweh here any more? let's ask him." Ahab replied..."There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies good about me, but only disaster." Micaiah was summoned and you can guess what happened.
So why don't we go and ask Billy Graham if America is going to be great again....or John MacArthur....or R. C. Sproul? I think that I know what their answers would be....repent....and maybe God will relent in His judgment. Evangelicals though have relied solely on Donald Trump's advice as to America's condition and not sought the LORD's...and therein is our dire predicament.
