We were traveling in the fall and happened to be in a city one evening when V. P. candidate Vance was speaking at a local urban black church. Tickets were advertised....free....and I reserved two over the Internet on Vance's website. We showed up in plenty of time but according to the Secret Service they lowered the number of people allowed in the church....so we missed the cut-off by about ten people. No big deal....we just wanted to see him in person. Today....after seeing hm in action....if he was walking down our street...I wouldn't get out of this chair to go see him.
This transformation that America has undergone under Donald Trump...goes well beyond politics. This isn't ideology. Donald Trump doesn't appear to have any ideology. This is supernatural....in that there is a power present....a power over the minds of people....and this is also psychological....in that there is a....bloodlust....in play....an uncontrollable urge to punish.
At seventy-five years old....an always inquisitive seventy-five years....a baby boomer....I am watching right before me something that even history may have never seen before....a people once on the whole....beneficent....caring....and magnanimous....has permitted greed to dominate them. I'm referring to what was once the conservative right in this country.
This is not....nor does it resemble in any way or shape or form....the American people of my childhood. Talk radio is a good example. I go back literally sixty years with a portable radio by my side....listening to talk radio. Conservative talk radio in the 80s and 90s was genuine debate and reasoning. It was an intellectual exercise.
From a political perspective....it literally held America together over a thirty year period....roughly 1985 to 2015. There have been times in the past four years when I would boot up an old Rush Limbaugh show....for old times sake....and listen to it for a few minutes. Tonight....I booted up his January 7, 2021 show....the day after the insurrection....and as I listened I may as well have uttered...."Who is this man?" Such is the drastic change that not only conservative talk radio had undergone....but Rush Limbaugh himself.
A malevolent force has taken over America....first the left....roughly thirty years ago with the Clintons....and now the right. I cringe almost in disbelief at almost every news story that comes out on a formerly....fair and balanced....Fox news. There is nothing even remotely Christian in what we are doing....and the direction that we are going.
On a pleasant side note....once again from my perspective of sixty years....one of the most effective conservative radio talk show hosts was Pittsburgh's....Jim Quinn. He was a former vinyl disc jockey right in the same town and same time period as Rush Limbaugh. Jim was a hard boiled type of guy. Well....he passed away about a week ago. I looked up his former radio side-kick....Rose Somma Tennent....and she gave this testimony that heavy-duty doubter Jim Quinn....upon her urging....visited churches....and found one to stay with. According to Rose....Jim praised his Lord the last few months of his life!
